What would be the chances a modern/contemporary crime-action-drama story would gain any attention here. It would be based in a old world, but have a wild wild west feel in that the lawmen are just as troublesome as the criminals themselves, often forming fragile but effective alliances.

The MC would be someone just released from prison after only serving 7 of a 20-year sentence. His old gang is dead, the only survivors being traitors who skipped out of town with a massive amount of money.

Unlike normal crime thrillers, he won't be looking for revenge or even care about them. He will eventually run into them but only be coincidence. He eventually returns back into crime since it is the only life he knows.

It will basically be chronicling his life and follow a similar vibe and style such as the anime Black Lagoon. Also, no guns or anything. Weapons will be sword and bow.

Smut, Harem, Gender Bender/Girls Love/Boys Love. These are what I think the majority of the userbase here go for.

But there are exceptions. All in all, if a story is good written you will get readers, so my adivce is try. Frequent updates help too (sadly more than good grammar). At the worst you will get advices and exposure.

But be advised, I'm no one. Weigh my words.

My answer to any subject of this type is always going to be "It depends on the execution."

However, I personally tend to only pay attention to the fantasy genre. The few non-isekai series I read are still of the fantasy genre. That's just me speaking for myself, take that as you will.

If you ask me, it won't gain any real traction. You'd have to rely on slowly building your reader-base and having consistent uploads WHILE maintaining quality throughout. This will take at least YEARS to cultivate, if you want it to have any sort of major audience.

Contemporary crime thrillers aren't popular genres BUT they do have a fanbase that sticks to a series if they like it. They may not have the benefit of having a huge interest like normal smut/iskeai/gender-benders BUT once the ball rolls, you can be sure those who get caught in it will stick around.

It would do fine but not with a lazy cunt as an author.

Nah mate. Just get a cool cover, add in wuxia elements and sprinkle in some smut scenes and you got yourself a winning recipe.

Just label it as smut and it would take 50 chapters for people to catch on :s_wink:

I can get the cool cover but the fuck kinda wuxia element and smut scene do people add in crime thrillers.

"Hmm yes as you can see from the sparkles on this man's corpse he's been stabbed with the Legendary Ho Lee Fuk jade blade. I must now collect evidence for the case file"

"Sir why are you taking off your shirt"

"To collect evidence"

I will read and check it out.

I always prefer the real world to isekai, and generally dislike RPG and smut stories. Like what some above have said, if these genres execute well, I don't mind reading them.

I have one detective mystery (crime too, I guess?) written already and it has low views of 1k at 10 chapters, but I didn't care. People said they enjoy the mystery so you should just try writing it if you can commit to it.

In other words, there are always readers like me who also love this kind of things and you never know until you try them.

So it's like Yugioh 5Ds but with Kiryuu as the MC.
