Say, why only Italian mafia who are allowed to be sexy, charming, and dangerous at the same time?

Why no cartel, yakuza, triad, or other crime fam? :blob_cookie:

The Cartels are also depicted that way sometimes (see Queen of the South, for example), but their brutality eclipses any media romanticization.
The Russian Mafia has a similar issue - they are known to be utterly ruthless and monstrous at times so it's hard to paint them as "dark heroes" when they're just ... well... dark.
The only time I've seen triads depicted anywhere, they were the pawns of Sax Roehmer's Fu Manchu.
The Yakuza have been increasingly present in other media and can be all of the above, but usually are either depicted as oafish or as utter monsters, with few presentations in between (I guess the TV version of The Man in the High Castle depicted them as kind of an out of control arm of the Japanese government, that sometimes worked with the Emperor, but often just worked for itself, so that's kind of in the middle) - compare things like any version of The Punisher that dealt with them (the "monstrous" ones), or the anime "Back Street Girls" (Oafish).

Conclusion: Asian not allowed to be smokin hot & sexy by the media :blob_hmph:

Only the women in the brothels or the men raised in other crime syndicates (c.f. the K-drama Vincenzo - he's half Korean, half Italian, raised by the Mob and back in Korea to liberate the money of a dead guy that he helped secure several years earlier). Otherwise, either they're just boring "typical (crooked) businessmen," incompetent oafs (who can be sexy but usually just look like generic business people) or aging harridans (who likely once were very hot but that was decades ago; in comedies, they are unaware of time passing, in more "realistic" dramas they are bitter and vengeful).

I asked an AI to generate 4 people and card-style drawings. These are the crime bosses in my book. I guess I’d call them cartels because of how powerful they are. Though, there’s no connection to any specific country in my book, since I decided the story takes place in a multi-planetary future. Also, instead of focusing on just one protagonist, I decided to do a Game of Thrones-style approach, but with a Breaking Bad vibe in a Rick and Morty setting. I don't know, maybe this surprises you, but honestly, I didn't spend months overthinking it—it’s just a culmination of all my previous ideas.

Actually, it’s funny—after creating these great cartel leaders, I felt a bit of secondhand embarrassment and cringed a little. Do you guys ever feel that way when creating powerful characters, or is it just me? I wonder if anyone on this forum actually cares about what people are writing or plan to write?

I'm thinking about creating two book universes to gather all my ideas. One will be a sword-and-sorcery fantasy world, and the second will be sci-fi. I have no idea if anyone will even read this post, but I don't really care, I just wanted to share it anyway.
