What are your options on scrappers/plagiarists people and sites?


Just imagine your work you've been writing for years but you find out that some British guy is posting your work and claims it to be his, and he's getting the recognition you deserved, without giving you any credits..


Also they are plagiarising without giving credits.
The same thing Han sooyoung did to Tls123
And plagiarised three ways and claimed it as her own. Imagine the same thing happening to you.

Depends, I used to be the one reading books one demonic sides because the blue app was too expensive. Now looking back, I am a little ashamed.
I like fanfics though, for example, on the blue app, one cant earn money with it, and everyone knows you used a source for your work.
But if its about stealing, not giving credit, and labeling its as yours, I am strongly against it!

Mixed, on one hand I know they are illegal and wrong things that is practically stealing from the author

but on the other hand I understand why people use it, paying money for each chapters of a story isn't something that many can afford, especially many of the people of Asian, african and south Americans countries since their entire monthly income well as might be 10 dollars.

So I have asked myself this, should stories or reading culture in general only belong to people who can afford it.

The site which claims it doesn't own your content, but their terms of service states they have the right to copy your content to other sites, or sub-license it to other companies, besides gaining a considerable amount of money out of traffic your story (and all the trolling it receives) through ad revenue.

Plagiarist sites and people should be hunted down into oblivion, doubly so when they make money on that material. There is little to no worse outcome for the original author.
Scrapper sites are more of a gray zone, I'd say. They can be viewed as archives and, in some cases, they can benefit the author more thanks to the free advertisements those sites create—that is if we assume that they properly credit said author (and most known to me do so). If they don't, they aren't much better than the plagiarist ones.
From my experience, it's also much easier to take down material from the scrapper sites than hunting down plagiarists—sure, you will take one down but two others will pop up sooner than later.

Me? I'll will ask them nicely to remove it. If not... I'll try to find away to access their device (doesn't matter if its linux or windows), and get their personal data (phone number, emails, bank account, etc) hostage.

If its a site, I will ask the host provider of the site to be completely erase (permanently).

Remember If they try to get money from you, and ruin your life. Ruin their life first, before they did to you.

The scraper sites get little traffic and are nearly impossible to take down. For a short while someone was also hosting my patreon chapters as they came out too.

Someone was uploading my story to YouTube as a very bad audiobook. I got that taken down.

The scraper sites usually still say I'm the author, so I don't bother forcing the issue. For me, the two main concerns are money and quality. My story is the first draft for the eventual book it will be, so I do not want it misrepresented as anything more than that.

Personally, if they give credit and either add something to it (convert it to graphic novel, for example, or have decent - real or AI - readers make it an audionovel) I don't mind the scraper sites (heck, I even gave one a kind of half-hearted shout-out when it converted one of my stories at RR to an audionovel - with a caveat that I had not been able to check the quality because my antivirus program would not let me open the site!); however, if they are making money off of it, and give the author nothing, not even credit, that is just flat-out wrong (and illegal in most cases), and they deserve nothing but DOS attacks and a few years of misery in the afterlife...

My story is a story I wanted to tell, and I want it to be read or heard.

If someone likes it enough to pretend they wrote it, and claim credit? The story still gets told.

If a site republishes it to get their own traffic out of it? Cool, it's already free on two websites. Add a third or fourth if you want.

I thankfully don't earn money from my writing, so I am not losing anything if they do.

Once I publish the physical copies of the completed series? I expect people who care about it to buy them. But anyone who is finding it hard to pay for stories? They can keep coming here and read it.

Technically canibalizing my own revenu. But I choose to believe that it is the fair thing to do, paying back to the community that entertained me for years.

I find scanlations to be a bit of a grey zone. Might apply mostly to mangas, but if there certainly isn't any form of english material to a purely japanese story, for example, then I don't find that anyone really gets harmed. It's said that Japanese publishers even use those to gauge the potential success of an official release on the official market. Without those, I wouldn't even get to know about their existence. There's this one, Sengoku komashi kurotan, that I really like and would buy instantly were it to appear. Yet there isn't. Though, I keep looking if maybe I can buy it one day.

On the other side, I get that I'd be a bit annoyed if someone were to copy paste my stories. Especially, as I already offer them for free.

Some people kinda blow this off, but they do not know how truly unruly this can get.

I still remember some of my old author friends, who had their work stolen. Some readers knew and allowed it, others didn’t know. Both attacked the authors for trying to bring it to attention.

It really isn’t a matter of where it is, it is the intention behind it. Let alone profit wise, if it was stolen, it is money taken from you.

As well as, the purpose is to draw attention to you as an author. The story is the medium to do so. If it is up somewhere without permission, then it is unlikely they’d go to you, thus overall damaging the amount you bring in.

For any content creator, time is a sensitive matter. The more that is taken away from you yourself, the less likely you’d get out there.

If all points check out, and permission is given. Then there is no problem, it is another issue when it is done without permission.

From that point, it is up to the community to spread the word. The author can only do so much themselves. If the work is free to read, then go to the site to support the author.

If it is not, then it means this is the author’s living or part of it. If you want them to continue doing what they do, you pay into it.

I didn’t get where I am, because I allowed things to go free. I got where I am, because I was diligent to not only expand my net do try to take down as much pirated content as I can.

Plus, if it is sold. It is a complete mockery to not only myself, but to the readers. My stuff is free, and I intend to keep it as that.

I don’t want a dime from the readers, I wouldn’t want them to get scammed into paying for something they don’t have to.

Now, do I care if they personally download it or something? Nah, if they want to enjoy it for themselves or share with others. I’m cool with it.

I am not fine with its distribution for profit, or taking credit for it.

Although some view pirate sites as a form of advertising, I personally haven't felt any increased attention towards myself. Perhaps embedding Patreon links in each chapter will change the situation. However, even though I have seen similar solutions, I find them disgusting.

That likely won’t work, pirate sites actually go through the effort to remove links to the original. However, not the words for some reason.
