Mr. President, how do you suppose we respell 'There'? I can't see it being spelt any other way.
'Ther' is like the pirate version of 'there'. It makes me say it with an emphasised R, like a pirate's 'Arrrrr'.

Maybe all these silent 'e's is the boundary which truly makes us civilised.
