Writing Writing Vignettes

I have a LOT of OC's and story ideas. I had the idea to write 'vignettes' of them, like little short stories about their lives, etc, instead of a straight-up whole novel.

Eventually, they would get a novel, but it's more of a place to put the writing snippets I work on the side, outside my main WIPs.

Does anyone do work like this?

One way I can describe it is like a television series where we get a pilot episode introducing the characters, and then each episode is kind of its own little contained thing.

Would love your feedback!

So that's what they are called? Awesome!
Vignette is the correct name (I believe it's pronounce like "vin yay"). OVA refers to an "Original Video Animation" which is a thing in anime where they make a short(ish) animated vignette.

Also, yes, it's a good idea, both as a way to practice with the characters, practice your writing, and possibly even a way to drive interest to your story.

I don't do them for any particular story I'm working on, though I do like to slap together a little sliver of a scene from time to time with random characters and scenarios. It's fun.

Yes! Thank you for your reply. :) I was thinking of doing some with the 'Series Title' just being my working novel idea for the future.

Haven't in a long while. Used to do those a lot when I was part of an APA though, little side stories for some of the characters, but that was back in the 90s. One of those, was, I think, the only "seasonal" story I've ever done - but then the superhero genre is kind of built around vignettes.
