I'm working on a story, but I am having trouble writing interactions between the mother and the MC.

MC is a reincarnated person, and he was born in a prison cell where his mother is locked up and chained to the wall. The guards have decided he should stay in the prison cell with her for various reasons that will not be revealed at this point.

I want for the mother to not exactly be the most caring of people, in fact she should have an attitude of wanting to make her own child hate her. However, she also has to care for him enough to have taught him the local language and tells him various things about the world.

... actually, describing the situation is also helping me figure some things out, so I guess questions are also welcome, perhaps even more so than suggestions. But, all the same, any questions or suggestions on what kind of interactions these two can have in the prison cell to accomplish this image?

In the prisons I've worked with, the children of PDLs are often taken care of by other inmates (they are with the women PDLs, mostly those with light crimes), or by their mothers themselves. Take note that Philippine prisons are overcrowded, thus some make arrangements to include children of PDLs in the cells (detention centers).

So if your mother is not the caring of all people, you can have your MC raised by other inmates. As for their interactions, you can make their relations 'superficial', like "MC lives, I live. I provide enough for your needs, or the others will".

No, not really. Rather, for spoiler-related reasons, she actively does not want her child to love her. But, it's actually from something of a place of caring for, again, spoiler-related reasons. (Fantasy magic and stuff is involved.)
Have you seen Bojack Horseman? His mom is kinda like that.
