Sooo... I once tried writing a cultivation story. I took it really seriously, to the point I actually got converted to Buddhism while researching, and... How do you even write a cultivation story? If the cultivators follow those philosophies, there would be, like, no conflict at all.
I imagine there is a supreme treasure and instead of fighting, the buddhist cultivator generously gives it to the daoist cultivator, the daoist cultivator declines because it is of no interest to him as he wants to become "an empty boat" and they go and sell it and give the money to the poor...

Bring out your inner atheist and read the religion as a story?

Afaik, most CN writers are just skim through the religions for what they need, sometimes even twisting the teachings to fit their narrative.

Basically xianxia is just what if the CN society has superpower. The answer? Everyone's inner dicks come out to flop.

When you are exhausted from life and society, wish fulfilment, be it lame, provides great entertainment.

Monke brain goes woo~ at the bangings and smash.
What kind of cultivation? Wuxia or XianXia\XuanHuan?

Imo cultivation is mainly on xianxia. Wuxia can cultivate but they are on low level qi shit.

The community literally have 低武 (low martial, I no idea how to MTL) as a statement that says that this work's martial art level is only as high as smashing rocks and run as fast as a horse.

高武 (high martial, once again I dumb) means that martial artists can punch nuclear strikes, cleave mountains and seas.

Wuxia is a strict 低武, as in the martial artists are at best Peak Human, if not Enhanced Human but never Super Human.

I know the difference. I asked because Wuxia usually has three different groups, Orthodox, Unorthodox, and Demonic(or something similar). At least in Korean Wuxia. And not everyone is Buddhist there, even in Orthodox factions.

XuanHuan uses foreign fantasy elements, so again, no need to look at Buddhism.

Oh, afaik buddism is often in Orthodox, even when sometimes displaying brainwashing tendency. Because Buddhism is one of the three big religion/ thinking (or used to) in China, alongside Taoism and Confucianism.

Unorthodox is often blend with Demonic solely because it is... not the main path in the 3000 paths.

Ps. Did a quick Baidu and ffs. 3000 paths in Taoism just means the endless options. 800 unorthodox path is not a thing, it is just 旁门左道, 小道无数, which just means an endless selection of unconventional paths.

I meant to say that Orthodox sects can be Buddhist, but not all of them are fervent believers that adhere to the rules. Even Shaolin Monks might go rogue. I don't remember if Beggars Sect is usually a part of the Orthodox alliance or not, but they surely won't follow all the rules. Tang clan that usually specializes in poison is the same.

If cultivators(warriors) find a supreme treasure in Wuxia, there won't be a peaceful resolution, as Trashy mentioned above. Because unorthodox\demon cultivators don't give a shit about Buddhism, individual monks can go rogue, and even whole orthodox sects can go rogue. Same is true for Taoism and Confucianism. And those who didn't go rogue will try to stop the 'evil' sects\people.

Personally, the way for the altruistic MCs who study the peaceful method is to learn how to defend the peace and not just mindlessly fixate onto the notion.

Drawing a phrase from Ghandi https://www.mkgandhi.org/nonviolence/phil8.htm

Violence is the last option, but it should be an option when innocence is about to be lost.

One does not say "peace~" and let the atrocities of evil be committed. To let evil occur is evil itself, I think that that is in the teaching of peace, somewhere.

My knowledge on the big three is limited and I am not that interested to dive into that can of worm now.

How to write cultivation? Learn farming. Everything you need to know about cultivation you will learn as you farm. Then make your whole experience a martial arts novel.

when has religion supposedly being peaceful ever stopped people from killing each other?

if you want to do a Buddhist martial arts sect why not make them fringe fanatics who want to purge the unclean in the true peace of death

Might as well write a knight templar story or Warhammer 40K fanfic.

Just because they are followers does not mean they can be 100% infallible. I have met not a single person that can do everything he thought. Trying to do something and being able to do something is very different. What I usually do is to find the plausible explanation for why certain people will act in a way.

Even when they follow the same philosophy, there are many aspects of life that is no specific instruction on how to act.

If a Deathologist is a religion that opposes any form of unnatural causing of death, how will they react to a murderer? Will they confine him? What if he can’t be confined or sealed? Will they commit their taboo and kill him? What if killing an innocent child will save millions lives, will they do it?

If your religion says you must love your parents even the evil ones, at what point must you stop them from destroying your life and the livelihood around them?

Things are opened to interpretations.

That's actually not really true. Why I got converted was not because what it told me to do but it gave me a way of thinking explaining the why-do's and how-do's and only suggestions for the what-do's.
