So a flying saucer appears over your house, and suddenly you find yourself talking to aliens.
In case you're curious, the aliens kind of look like octopi.
Anyways, the aliens tell you that they consider humans to be really cute, and they would really like to take one back with them on their spaceship to travel the universe. Since they believe in consent, they don't make any species into their pets unless they consent to it.
Since Earth isn't a signatory on the Intergalactic Sapiens Treaty, humans have zero rights in the galaxy. Humans are considered too primitive/dumb to have rights, and specifically we think too slowly (i.e. most other "sentient" aliens can have hundreds of thoughts per second). Incidentally, it's excruciatingly painful for them to talk to you right now because they have to slow down their regular speech 1000x. The aliens condescendingly say that you won't be able to know what's best for yourself, so occasionally you might be locked in a room/cage for your own safety.
On the other hand, there is also an Intergalactic Animal Abuse Treaty, which effectively makes animal abuse illegal. In accordance to the treaty, they will definitely makes sure that you have plenty to eat, sleep, and have your health and other basic necessities taken care of.
The octopi aliens explain that they think humans are cute for their modern human-like behavior. Specifically, they think the way that humans fiddle with electronic devices and so forth are cute, so they'll probably give you all sorts of toys to play with. It's not possible to have an Internet connection back to Earth though, since Earth isn't on the Intergalactic network.
Finally, this agreement is effectively permanent. These aliens don't visit the same star system twice in the span of millions of years, so they have zero intention to come back to Earth after they leave. Similarly speaking, you can't back out of being a pet once you agree to being one.
1. Would you agree to becoming an alien's pet? Why or why not?
2. Could the aliens offer better conditions / better toys to make the offer seem more enticing? If yes, what would you want?
3. What are your worst fears?
4. Could you live a highly regimented lifestyle? (i.e. someone else choosing what you eat for dinner, etc.)
5. Could you bear going on an intergalactic journey without human contact for a long period of time?
