Why is the DBZ formula so attractive

You guys are missing the forest for the trees here. No one is saying that power fantasies aren't appealing.

What I am specifically saying is that imitating visual media which have a whole host of limitations(primarily being budgetary and time constraints) are being thoughtlessly imitated by the literary medium which by it's definition is limitless.

Going back to my DBZ example, why is it that characters in the billions don't seem to move any quicker than those in the thousands. Look at Invincible for an example. A character when he is approaching the speed of light is leaving a cone of destruction so wide he just has to fly over a city to vaporize it. Where are these feats?

Like DBZ power scaling doesn't make sense. 130,000 combat power freezer dropped an energy bomb and destroyed planet vegeta. Piccolo in a power level of the 1000's could destroy the moon.

So how the hell does the earth survive Goku and the squad's fights now that their power level is in the trillions

Obviously behind the scenes the planet has been doing weighted-clothes gravity training next to a super massive blackhole.

It's usually not just the system and the general "We have to keep raising the stakes or the story ends" dilemma.

The story has to support it. Goku going Super Saiyan for the first time wasn't just impactful bc it was a power up. It was the *why he did it* that made you remember the moment.

As for the "nothing changes but the number" element--fight scenes are cool. Lol. I could watch Goku and Vegeta beat each other up hundreds of times.
