Because theres a variety of writing platforms allow you to create and write for free and share it with others so you can get some publicity for it too. It passes the time too, especially for those writing to escape stress or stuff in life. People have been moving from traditionally physically published books to virtual ebooks that are easier to carry around on one device and save space and convenient. Also, because its free on many online writing platforms.

Because why wouldn't there be? Writing and sharing it offline in a physical form... well, I bet that wouldn't turn out to those who dig themselves inside their own room to write for their own personal reasons.
