Are you a strong believer of fate? Or do you believe you can choose your own destiny? Or a bit of both.

Fate puts opportunities in my path, but I choose whether to take them. I believe we regret the things we didn't do more than the things we did, so I'll take most of what comes my way.

Interesting that nobody here believes in absolute fate as far as the votes go. Maybe it's a writer thing, too used to literally writing their own fates.

If you have ever dropped toast in such a way that it folds under your foot and smears butter and jam on both the floor and your sock, you realize that no creature would ever take the time to make your specific life more miserable for no reason. I am sure a force that can create a universe has better things to do with their time!

I like to think it's a combination of the two, specially when speaking about stories. But even in real life, success is often a product of equal parts hard work and the right opportunities.

Life may present you chances, but it's up to you to seize them by your own.

Believe will choose my own decisions and stuff to forge my own path in life more, be it happiness or success, and etc. However, probably there are certain outside stuff not really seen so easily that may influence life how we come to make, and some of those things may be beyond.

Combo. Mostly own decisions and own choice lead to what it is, but maybe also some parts influence by fate.

I think everything comes down to action and reaction. In one world, you may fail and never do anything. In another, you may fail but learn from your failure. Depending on the situation it can go around and around. No good deed goes unpunished, karma is a beach, and so forth. While we may not have a immediate effect on our self, fate is more like a kid with a magnifying glass. You either manage your life and deal with how it comes or get burned by someone out there and never understand why/don't want to know why/accept it and move on but remain traumatized. It's a combo of fate and our own choices. All choices have a result, even making no choice is in the end, a choice to be made.

Ultimately the result of one's life is their own decisions and efforts, but most people tend to have karmic challenges that persistently pester them with familiar obstacles. One person might continuously fall in love with only people already married, another might be a target of hatred for a parent's acts, some people are born without the benefit of a proper functioning hand, and we can't forget the insidiousness of poverty. Where you go in life is under your own control, but the starting point is something decided by fate even before one is born.
