Where do you put updates/notes regarding your series'?

I've just been using the messages section of my profile for tidbits about my series. Is this fine or is there a better way to give people updates without ruining the flow of chapters by inserting "Author's Notes" into the chapters themselves?

You really want them in your story, preferably at the end of your chapter. If something's come up (i.e IRL stuff, something big, a tease, tag changes, etc), then you want your current readers to see this. Tag changes won't really affect new readers.

Plus, your readers won't go out of their way to see things on your profile, as they aren't alerted by updates there. (unless they're following you directly, I think).

But you can always do both just to be safe. NEVER do it mid-chapter though.

Ah this makes sense.

So what I have posted (on my profile page) are things like:
-Chapter delays
-Tag changes(additions)

So far nothing big or all encompassing. But these are usually things that follow after I've actually posted a chapter so...

Yeah, those are only seen by those who follow you. The rest probably missed it. Using author notes and the announcement buttons while editing chapters can be a great tool.

I generally put things at the end of the chapter. I'd prefer to write important things on my profile, but only the followers, which are maybe one twentieth of my readers if even that, receive the notifications about profile posts and hence it's not a good idea to post some important notice there only for most of your readers to miss it.

I don't think there is a better way to place things like an end of chapter note. Some people might get annoyed, but it's visible and at least no one will complain you didn't inform them.

There are some authors that write veritable essays there, putting some additional info, announcements, links, and recomendations there, although if it's really a lot it can just be put into a spoiler.

if its super critical, put it at the beginning, as if the reader drops at that chapter, they won't see it through

I usually put announcements at the beginning and end about certain things, usually warnings that im taking xyz artefact and changing it up (for example, that futhark runes work differently in my setting, that there are no pride flags because stonewall never happened nor needed to, that sort of thing), And the end annoucement to chat about something fun, to remind people that yes I'm a woman when I write a female character in even remotely a bad light... okay I might have been way too fucking paranoid when I first started this.)

I try to put status updates on my profile though I haven't been doing that as often since I get radio silence on that front.

Really it's up to you how you wish to proceed. Just dont AN halfway in your chapter

I generally put them in the footnotes towards the bottom of the chapter. Sometimes, if I want to point something out prior to someone reading, I'll put notes at the top but I think I've done that once or twice.

I really, really dislike how SH does author notes for some reason. It just looks janky and ugly and I've chosen to largely ignore putting them up on this site. However, thankfully, since coming to SH I haven't really had the need to do so.

I use the horizontal line and add Author's Notes directly after the chapter.

Like this.

When I add them. Most of these suck, though. They're random comments about parts I like.
