What would you consider slice of life?

I'm slightly curious, what makes slice of life what it is?
Would a story whose pace moves day by day be qualified as slice of life?

My high fantasy has me asking questions.

Definition of a slice of life genre according to SH. Novels with no focused plot. This genre tends to be naturalistic and mainly focuses around the main characters and their everyday lives. Often there will be some philosophical perspectives regarding love, relationships, life etc. tied into the novel. The overall typical moods for this type of story are cheery and carefree, no-rush life for the characters.

Yes, slice of life can be very boring.

The only interesting factors you can add are either comedy or philosophy, both of which are very hard to come up with for each chapter

If that's the case then it'd conflict with action-adventure and high-fantasy.

A slice of life is about the interaction between characters. And the good ones will have interesting characters dealing with personal conflict while trying to move on in life. And for a GIGANTIC market, these stories are not boring. It's just in these stories the conflict is not about finding the celestial sword and defeating the demon lord, but how to make friends while moving in with your estranged Dad and his new (mean) wife in another town...while missing your old friends.

Slice of life can have action, but the action is not the main focus

I know the statistics, but you know what the psychology tag is also focused on good characterisation.
Anima Aliena has that tag, the pacing is also day by day, would it be considered as slice of life?

This definition is wrong. They can be dark and serious, for example, a slice of life about a person suffering from progressing Alzheimer's disease as they and their family and friends struggle to adjust to changes.

"Psychological" is a new age tag that's letting the reader know that that Author is "Cerebral"

and I'm not saying Anima Aliena cannot be a slice of life. I've only read the summary. But to further explain slice of life without pretending to be an expert. Think of stories with LOTS OF DOWN TIME for the characters to reflect. And they are not typically "fighting for their very lives" every day. In many cases the stakes are quite low (Will I make friends in this new town, or Can I get over the death of my father while attending university).

I don't know what else to tell you. Think of slower moving stories where the MC is not trying to save the world, on some kind of quest to save the world, or isn't being attacked every other day and defending his life.

My story is a true SLICE OF LIFE. it is the daily life of stuff happening to three Valkyrie sisters in an All Girls High School on Earth. Aside from the existential threat of a Nether Demon that pops up from time to time (and the girls fight it but, don't worry about that). They're other MAJOR concerns are about The school play, the school elections, the upcoming dance, the blasted volleyball game coming up on Friday.

These are what they are worried about. Slice of Life stuff.

Thank you for the explanation. Now what did you mean by 'cerebral'.
Consider as someone that was born in the old times, not too long ago.

slice of life can always work with fantasy or sci-fi and flex your world building skills, or even something surreal or post-apocalyptic. it doesn't necessarily have to be urban life setting.

you can write something like the daily life of an ordinary elf in the world tree before they traveled the entire world, for example.
it doesn't have to be the main focus, but part of the story when it was calm and peaceful.

i think the main part about writing it is putting yourself in the shoes of someone experiencing their daily life in a fresh setting.

in a way, a lot of isekai stories also had slice of life. it's kind of an easier, relatable way to project yourself as the character and living their lives.

i do love writing slice of life a lot since i don't really care about conflict or conspiracies, but more about how to enjoy life in a different environment. traveling's too expensive and a pain in the ass for me, so might as well just write it.
