What was the thing that inspired you to write.

By that I don't mean what inspired you to write your story, but rather what inspired you to write in general. It could either be as a hobby or something but usually there's still some sort of inspiration there to push you forward and put your work out there.

Like, for me, I got inspired to become a great author because of trashy isekais. I've been writing books since I was a kid, but that passion never really left me. Then I watched Wise Man's Grandchild and it was so bad I got motivated to write an actually good isekai. Well, I still plan on writing it, but after looking at my first draft of it, I realized I need to practice first which is why I'm here in the first place. This is my training arc before I face the arc villain, the publishing company. Or I could self publish, then the final boss will change to the reader's opinions, the worst villain of them all. My fragile ego can't handle anything below a four star rating.

So what got y'all into writing.

I did it out of spite to my parents. When I was in my early teens I tried writing and they threw it in the trash after reading it because I used magic and it was evil. So I wrote in secret and they found it. did the same thing. I kept telling them that I would write a book as soon as I was out of the house so I did. As for why I started writing in my teens. Well, I just wanted to escape reality for a bit and wanted to share my reality with others. That and it's a way to cope with being alone most of the time.

Oh so one of those. I never really got that mindset. Like its fiction. Even if its evil or some shit its not like its going to affect reality. I hope you create a wonderful story in the future.

I was dawdling away doing nothing much. Found a reviewer who reads random books and after a bit I got introduced to Throne of Glass. You have no idea how badly I would love to punt the MC in that book.

It did let me see how it didn't take too much talent or any if any to write. You got an idea then do so. Just got to work on my crippling fear of judgement.

Boredom and I wanted to try something new. Writing sort of worked out for me, sort of didn't, but I am currently happy with what I made.

For me, it was therapy. Not going to delve into my personal life enough to say what it was therapy for, but writing has the ability to give you a bit of distance from your own experiences and go through them in an analytical fashion. This makes it a rather common technique in therapy, and I took to it rather well.

After writing for therapy, I wound up getting in the habit of writing and started writing for pleasure as well. I wrote a bunch of flat out erotica for a while. (Not smut, erotica. The difference is that smut at least tries to justify itself with a story attached to all the adult activities going on.) That sharpened my edge in writing while getting some good feed-back. (Erotica readers will praise your work so long as it creates some cheap hot mental imagery, which is a pretty easy standard to make. So, it's a cheap and easy way to get some good positive reinforcement as you are crawling through your efforts as a fledgling writer.)

After a while of this, I decided to post a few little fan-fiction stories for the Death Mage LCD thread that I got really into. (Before you ask, it was completely SFW.) They absolutely LOVED what I wrote, and then that gave me the courage to try posting up a story to this site.

(Also, while I know there's a lot of smut on this site, I've resolved to keep sex out of any of my writing here. I'm sorta trying to evolve into something more main-stream and family friendly in my writing.)

I saw a SH story linked on twitter two months ago. I read it and thought “This looks fun. I could probably do this. I have some ideas for stories.”

Video games.
I always enjoyed the stories in video games even if it was not a very good story I don't understand computers enough to make games but I always loved the fact that you can bring to life a world and at the same time interact with it

it wasn't like a movie were you just sit back and watch or a book where you use your imagination to fill in the blanks in video games you don't just watch the story play out and you don't just read the story play out you ARE the story as it's playing out

What inspired me to write was getting tired of beta Japanese MC and cliché stories about a righteous hero saving the world with his harem of waifus

Someone wrote a shitty God mc story when I was in my early teens. I didn’t like how he made it, and thought to myself, eh I can do better. It all started then…

I don't remember, I started writing 13 years ago. But I think I always had a tendency to daydream stories, so it's just natural I want to put them into some permanent vessel such as paper. Human memory is faulty.
