Curious!

I'm new to this/new to sharing my work in general. Only just launched here and the places the beginning of the week.

I have a patreon set up. Not expecting to make bank but hoping to earn enough to spend on art commissions of my characters for myself/those who supported me.

I only have one so far... So that's maybe a little distant before I can start commissioning pieces ?

What incentives for you as readers make you want to support authors this way? Chapters in advance? Art being shared? Bonus POV chapters of certain events?

For the authors: what kind of things do you offer for extra support in terms of patreon subs?

Their work. If something emotionally clicks with a reader in a story, or if it is intriguing enough (be it a clever spin of a plot, a previously unusual thread of the story, or simply more of the same and desired story), then a reader throws bucks to support their author.

Or. Simply because the author is funny, in terms of their character or how they behave. Look how much money Empress Theresa brought to its author, and he is... peculiar. Far from being a good person, but he was stubborn, kept making a fool out of himself, and was paid richly for his clown work.

The last way that I know of is nepotism. Simply get born in a family of a supersuccessful dictator, and he or she will force the citizens to adore and pay you. It's a foolproof method.

Consistent upload schedule that you keep is a must.
Of course, the story itself, and the quality of writing.
Advance chapters as incentive. Exclusive stories can then keep me in.
Reasonable value for the price asked.

It's not really convenient for me to support authors through Patreon right now, since I don't have an actual income. But in the future once I start making money by myself I could do those IF and ONLY IF the story I read actually like tugged my heartstrings and gave me literal dreams. The kind where, after reading it, made me go GOD DAMN (Either through literally absolute cinema, or the comedy is just *muah* chef's kiss man, etcc..)

Don't ever get discouraged. I've seen so many Patreon's after a year of no submissions still having an auto-cashing of hundreds of dollars with nothing to show for it.

When and if I start making some real money off of my writing, I intend to "share the wealth" - but that may be a long time coming.
