what makes a luxury item so expensive?

Is it because the ingredients are so rare? or because they only produce 1 item for 1 year? or for something else?

what do you think about rich people who spend their money on luxury goods?

And if you were rich, would you follow their lavish lifestyle? or stay independent and simple even though a lot of money?

I'm back here to ask your opinion

Well, having a luxury item guarantees that its of the best quality. The people who sell them have to look for the most skilled craftsmen, they might have to pay for the materials, which of course, is also expensive.

or because they only produce 1 item for 1 year?
What product are we talking about here. Cars? Handbags? Depending on what it is, even if its a luxury good, it can still be manufactured pretty easily.

It's their money, let them spend it.

And if you were rich, would you follow their lavish lifestyle? or stay independent and simple even though a lot of money?
Fuck yeah. Why wouldn't you? I know I'd spend as much as I could to enjoy myself.

Quality over quantity, which means the item is exclusive. The brand and of course the originality of the item's design too. Uhn.

In regards to hypebeast culture, the prices are heavily driven by the lack of supply. For instance, a very questionable shoe is released by Kanye. The price is about $200. But due to low supply and the desire to have a product designed by cool famous guy who wrote MBDTF, there will be far more people who want a pair than pairs supplied. To add to this, degenerates called resellers will buy as much as possible to resell. Since these money hungry subhumans now have their hands on most of the supply, they can artificially raise the price since there aren't really any other options to get a pair. So I can buy a pair for $220 but sell it for $460, a $240 profit ignoring shipping and taxes.

Not to say that many of these products are poorly made. The material and overall quality is very good in general. This applies for the majority of luxury goods as well. However, if we're being honest a considerable amount of designer fashion looks like complete shit. The only reason it ever looked good is because either the model is just that attractive or the audience is too biased towards the celebrity wearing it.

And in my personal experience, a good number of "elites" prefer simple looking but very high quality goods to show good taste. It's generally frowned upon to wear gaudy items, such as the gucci belts with the huge logo.

Forgetting issues of supply and demand, the other thing that makes a thing a luxury good is the amount of effort required to make it.

If you cut down a tree in the forest, you now have some wood. You can sell that to a carpenter, taking a nice cut for yourself.

The Carpenter then takes that wood and crafts a nice set of planks, which he sells for a tidy sum.

Those planks are then given to a clockmaker, who combines them with several other goods(all of which needed equally elaborate chains of production to reach her hands) to make a grandfather clock.

For every step in the process, money changed hands. Each time, the person buying something had to sell their goods at a higher price in order to make a profit. That Grandfather Clock is a luxury good because it's significantly more expensive than the individual parts used to make it, and because of the skill needed to craft it.

Though I have to say, anyone with a computer or phone is already purchasing luxury goods.

If it’s something like Gucci, it’s expensive because people will buy it because they want the status and temporary pleasure of being rich.
Absolute scum that should go to the camps.
Just donate basically my money to charity

because It's called a Luxury Item.

Why do you think a lot of cars are so expensive even though there are better ones for much cheaper?

People's vanity.

You can easily get a truckload of pearls for cheap. Or one very specific kind for your lifetime income. Rules and regulations tend to crop up in order for people to feel superior to their fellow moneybags.

Luxury items cost more to produce than the cheap plastic shit you get from china.

Luxury items are often just status symbols. I'll pay more for quality or customization, but I'll never pay more for something just because it has a brand name stamped on it.

-I think its good thing if the crazy rich people buy thing and circulate their money...

-If I had plenty of money to throw around, I would certainly buy things that I currently don't... but no matter how much money I had, it wouldn't be things like smartphones covered in diamonds... I am sure I could always find other, better things to spend it on, no matter how much I "had to" spend...
