What is the mindset of people who spend hundreds of dollars on webnovel?

I don't see the problem. Why buy books that someone won't read and instead spend that money on something they are actively READING and ENJOYING?

We don't need to dig around in other's wallets. Everybody can spend their money on anything they like, be it books, lewd anime figures, or an antique fridge from the 50s.

As long as they are using money that they have and financially stable with it, I am fine with it. It is their money.

Just like gambling, spend a tiny portion for fun is fine, but spend until you ruin yourself is too much.

I don't know about the webnovel site as I've avoided it due to its poor reputation, but I do support several web novel authors' Patreons and give the occasional Ko-Fi tip because I want more like what I've read. I realize that I'm not getting the same quantity of literature for the currency unit, yet that's not the intention. I also still buy and read books, in brick and mortar bookstores even. These things aren't necessarily mutually exclusive unless you can't afford it, I suppose? Do people really spend more than they have on web novels?

It's very much a cost per unit of entertainment basis. If they think the cost per unit is worth it, it is. Sure, there's likely better cost/fun ratio's available than that, but if that's the fun they are looking for right now, all power to them

I shamelessly wear a pirate hat, it isn't morally right, it's the moral standards here.

Spending money on incomplete webnovel rather than finished novel is a rather bad consumption.

Spending money on writing novel and resources is not that good if it to improve writing skill, especially of it is a free webnovel.

Spendinf money for commisioning cover, beta-read, grammar check, writing assist services, and other services that could assist you so that you dan Focus on writing "free-mium" webnovel that people paid for, is the best expense you can paid for.

And paying someone to moderate your story's comment section is a good way to save headache of facing toxic readers. They can also pick all the good advice and the grammar corrections while ignoring the useless ones.
