What is a good word count per week?

So, if you were a reader, with a job and a family and not that much time, how many words per week would you consume without burning out? Because this story is demanding 4k chapters, maybe even more, and something tells me that daily updates are not a good idea.

Thank you for your time! :blob_cookie: :blob_cookie: :blob_cookie: :blob_cookie:

Early on, you want to update as frequently as you can to build an audience. Keep pushing out chapters at your fastest reasonable pace that doesn't risk burning yourself out for about the first 2 years of posting your series (however many chapters that turns out to be.)

At that point, you can rein it back and post at around a chapter or two per week.

Alternatively, you can post one chapter per month from the beginning, but only if it's 8K words per chapter minimum and it is very well edited.

oof.. believe me.. I tried.. I don't have a family but a job and not much time. at first, I thought hey I could do this.. then time was not ideal. I got burned out real quick after some time writing my first novel.. 2 chapters on Saturday and Sunday are better if you have a 9-5. I think it's ideal not to write too much if you don't have time to spare in working days. I got a 2-10 so ye.. different timings.. just keep a steady pace. of 2 chapters or 3 if you can squeeze that in Saturday or Sunday or whatever days off you have.. writing every day is juts stressful IMO..

Because this story is demanding 4k chapters,
...it needs 4000 chapters? It's got more chapters than most stories have pages, damn. I'd probably read like 100 chapters before giving up because at a chapter a day it's gonna take me almost 11 years to read it all.

Ok me being unfunny aside I'm assuming you mean 4k word chapters.

It depends, is the short answer. How much time is a little time? An hour? I could read 4000 words in an hour. That's only 67 words a minute. Half an hour? 134 words a minute, I could maybe pull it off. However it mostly depends on the person. Some reason fast, some read slow. How much could I read without burning out? Depends on the story quality. I can read books like Japanese Destroyer Captain or LOTR back to back without any burnout because I love those books, but I can get burnt out with books I don't really care for, like Guerilla by Mel Odom.

I hope I answered the question properly.

yes, 4k words, not chapters. I am thinking about 1-2 chapters per week, but idk. The thing is, I stockpiled two stories until now, because I wanted to give the readers some breathing space, and that got one of my projects even more readers than usual.

With 4k word chapters, I'd say 1-2 chapters per week is about right for the first 2 years. You can back that off to 1 chapter per week after those 2 years if you are starting to feel burdened by that pace at that time.

I don't think a reader would burn out from daily updates if they enjoyed the story, but 4k might be a bit much just due to time constraints.
If anything I feel like the writer would burn out faster :sweating_profusely:

Because I'm a bad writer. I immediately make a chapter of more than 1000+ words, in one day. Instead of writing in parts. I'm i stupid?

Oh, I can't leave a chapter for the next day either. So, no worries.

In my opinion 7,000 words
After all
A thousand words a day keeps the writing block at bay :blob_uwu:

I'd say two a week is good. Three days separate.

What are you talking about? That's not a bad writer.

I write 2000+ word chapters in a single sitting (around 2 hours.) Then, I wait about a day, then come back and edit the chapter. Then, I consider it ready for release.

That's the method most really good authors use. Write the entire chapter in one sitting, get some separation by letting it sit a while, then edit.

I am not sure word count is a greatest indicator of the quality of a character. It puts the incentive to add bloat.

If the chapter accomplishes what it is supposed to do well making it longer decreases the quality in my opinion.

Yeah adding details and more dialogue can help but sometimes it just makes things slow.

Well, I'm going right way. Thanks
