Technically the story I'm planning to write soon would fit in the contemporary/modern genre but since its not listed as a genre, what kind of genre would it fit under?
Slice of Life? Not romance, no mystery or stuff, it doesn't exactly focus on the school life that much...

The story is a short story about a boy learning from his grandpa's phrase how to be strong; it is like maybe one or two scenes at the most.

I plan to write it up for an assignment due this Thursday and then post it onto ScribbleHub.

Yes, I know modern time/modern day is a tag. Before I can get to the tag, I need to put it in a genre and that's what I'm having trouble on.

What are the genres again? I forgot, since I haven't posted a story in a helluva time...

Slice of life is the most fitting, yes. Though you can also tack on drama and/or psychological depending on the content of the story, as well.

Correct me again if I'm making a mistake:

Slice of Life is just about Life in general right? So could be slice of life in ancient times, slice of life in modern times, slice of life on an extraterrestrial planet...etc.

Also, Slice of Life genre does not have to be a wholesome, happy loving genre either, right?

The story I'm thinking touches bit on toxic parent or neglecting parents, bit of bullying...stuff

It is not Psychological.

What counts as a Drama genre if many stories have some form of drama in resolving conflicts of a story?

Some unofficial genre explanations

Also, SOL doesn’t necessarily have to be lighthearted, slice of life just doesn’t have a very focused plot. If we’re following the MC’s day to day, it is an SOL. Doesn’t matter the setting.

As for dramas (quoting Moonpearl here), these are works that aim to create strong emotions typically through grand conflicts. These could be interpersonal conflicts (ex. soap operas, K-dramas, and other romance stories exhibit this) or large scale wars, political intrigues, dystopian governments, and the such. Or both.

I’m not too sure about it myself. But, basically Drama = big emotion, pretty much.

Ah I see. The story I have in mind is a cross between a memoir or a flashback on a childhood. So its not exactly day by day.
Choose as many genres as you can possibly justify.
Yes, that's why I'm debating what genre it could fit under.

What about seinin? Typically covers more mature themes.

I don't really think my story is "mature" in that it targets men at 18-30 as the unofficial genre explanations say....

I guess...the best genres that can fit mine is probably Slice of Life first and then Drama I guess...
Drama still feels weird since to me all stories have some sort of conflict in them that creates drama so it can cover a whole range of things...

My story idea would revolve around a boy being dropped into the water to learn how to swim. His reasons for taking up baseball is because he wanted something in case the bullies attack him. After some realization, he realizes his dad is an asshole and being strong doesn't mean just physically strong too, but mentally and physically strong as well. Idk if I'm explaining it well. Its like a flashback to his childhood. So he is the narrator of the story talking about his past experiences.
This can also count as a memoir right?

Either way, thanks everyone. I found the genres I wish to tag the story in. Also reminds me of another story in which I should tag it as drama then, going by the genre explanation. Thanks.

Wish contemporary/modern was genre and not a tag.
