Sorry. Just wanted to make a small statistical research about this topic connected to an adjacent thread.

The title and poll are self-explanatory.

Is there any reason I missed on the poll? Or maybe you have any elaborations on the points?

Votes are not public, so shoot away. This is strictly research-motivated.

Hey, I would hit that heart button no matter how the chapter turned out. It's more of whether I like the story in of itself than liking the chapter itself. I don't know how that dang heart works, anyway. Is it supposed to give the author some kind of achievement or something?

Yep, that's the question. I really am wondering about how the majority of people on SH perceive them. Because I have noticed that some people claim it IS a reward of some sort.

I only favored one chapter I think, I just remember it was phenomenal, I definitively think of Favorites as this "wow best chapter ever omg" thing. It needs to be above the rest in terms of writing to be considered a Favorite, otherwise, well, it's just a "like" like on youtube.

I think it has something to do with the placement in rankings or something? Idk, it's kinda weird. I think it functions like a chapter rating.

I mean, I think that's just how exactly it works? If it's that "wow best chapter" thing, it wouldn't be so insignificant that it wouldn't even notify the author. I think it's more like a chapter rating.

I think it's like kudos on AO3, some kind of a quick and easy way to let a creator know that you like their work without commenting "Thanks for the chapter!" or something along the line.

... there's a favorite button?
Jokes aside, I never used it besides back when SSSC (scriblehub short story competition) was there, favorites was the way to vote for a story. So for me it's a depreciated vote button. Feel free to add that option.

Added ^^.

It's interesting to see the contrasting opinions about what it is (on the readers' side of the issue) -- as Reward and a Random or Motivation seem to be directly opposed.

I also wonder how authors see Favorites, though, and how different it would be from the Readers' perspective even if the author is a Reader for someone else.

I read a lot on my tablet and phone. I find typing on a touch screen a huge pain. The ❤ is what I use in place of commenting on a chapter. It's my way of expressing enjoyment of the story and encouraging the author to keep writing. I really appreciate ❤ since it lets me "say" something without actually saying anything.

I never ❤ a chapter if I don't think it's written well or if I find it boring. To me, that devalues the ❤ feature. The ❤ isn't a (y) and should not be treated like one.

Anyone who gets a comment from me instead of a ❤ should feel like they won a medal. I have to sincerely like their work to be willing to go that far.
