What do you usually do on author discord?

I don’t use discord. Well, I used it before, but that would be a few years back, if I remember right. I only used it to communicate while playing games with my friends back in the day, but there seems to be a lot more to it.

Is it like a subreddit now? I saw a lot of authors having their own discord community, so I’m kind of curious about what you guys usually do in there.

Mine just started a week or so ago. I've made some discussion channels for my story, and also post @ announcements when a new chapter goes live.

I also commission a decent amount of artwork for the story (3-4 pieces a month), and plan on sharing the WIP sketches in a dedicated channel.

Otherwise, there are private channels for my beta readers and I to hash things out with each other, and a teaser channel where I'm dropping previews of my upcoming second story.

At the end of the day, it's also nice to just meme and shoot the shit with my readers, as a few of them who rarely commented turned out to actually be quite vocal when it's a real-time conversation.

You gotta make sure you don't get distracted though, or you will definitely fall behind on your writing.
