What do you think about anti heroes? Or ruthless main characters like Fang Yuan from Reverend Insanity?

I like anti-heroes. But I think most people like them too much. I think it’s because we’re annoyed by the idea of black and white morality, and we want to see “complicated people” as much as possible to challenge ethics and morality. Doing bad for the sake of good—that sounds cool, sure, but some people overhype it. People are beginning to lean toward sinning these days like it’s fine and dandy as long as it brings a good result, and they’d justify the means with the ends. Thus, laws are created.​

Read a handful of CN cultivation novels. The MCs act exactly like you described. I find such characters to be pathetic, and mirror the current state of the world. Dog eat dog stories are just too close to RL for me to like them. I prefer moral characters even if Frank Castle over reading about degenerates winning. Cause damnit, the psychopaths and sociopaths are winnings by screwing everyone else. Boris, Puten, Xi, Trump and Biden are all trash winners. Name a tech/oil/weapons/drug billionaire, and you've got a cutthroat sociopath trying to control governments via money, regardless of how well they sell themselves.

Like above said. Fang Yuan, and other CN's MCs are just villain. The difference is that GZR just doesn't bother to whitewash his MC. Unlike other authors who are deluded, and believe that all MC must be an infallible saint--even if their MC's actions are the opposite.

I don't mind antihero. But damn, full evil MC is overrated. Evil action as a mean of a goal? Hell, yeah. Give me that. But don't expect everyone to ejaculate each time author releases a 3k words worth of chapter filled only with gore and 'muh bad MC did bad'.

I like characters who are ruthless to people who deserve it, but wont kill the entire clan or family for simply being associated.

I like characters who accept the consequences of their actions without regret, simply upholding their ideals.

So, people who are REASONABLE. They can be assholes, too, but in a fun sense like you'd wanna drink a beer with them and hear their stories. Not in a way that you think, "i shouldn't mess around with this person"

As long as you respect their parameters, they can be friends. Otherwise? Well you may be fucked.

MC's who go, "if i leave the family alive, they may be thorns in my side later down the line....best kill them all just to be safe" i consider fucking pussies.

They are ruthless, but in the most cowardly way. Punish those who fuck with you. Don't drag innocents into it. So what if they hate you? If they later act against you? Accept the consequence of your choices, yeah?. Take some fucking responsibility for your actions. Act against them when they try to target you and those you love...not before.

So as i said. Ruthless, but reasonable.

I like ruthless character—or rational character, to be more precise. I like character who doesn’t act up on his emotion: the character who’s calm, cool, and collected.

Though, with that said, I don’t like evil character, either. Like the character who’s an asshole for the sake of being an asshole.

I prefer a more balanced and healthy type. A character’s who’s a good and decent person who does care deeply about those close to him, but can become cold and vicious toward his enemy.

Not evil, not manipulative; just confident and rational.

I don't really care too much if the mc has good or bad morality, I just want interesting mc's.
I think most novels that sell themselves on having an anti-hero mc and only characterize them as that are just as boring as those novels where the mc is a completely passive doormat.

I enjoy knowing what the MC wants and seeing him strives for it, regardless of the obstacles ahead. I also enjoy MCs able to put their foot down when push is to shove.

The most favorite verse I always enjoy hearing "we are not here to make trouble, but we are never afraid of dealing with it." Yes, this has been used badly for murderhobos who kill for women and cash, but I think this is a plus point on MCs who are more "defensive", ie fuck back harder when fucked. There is always the RL notion to suck it up, but I have been sucking for my entire life, why can't I enjoy a ballsy MC fight back?

he isn't anti hero, but you're right, i like most villain characters in a manga, novel or cartoon, but i don't want anybody to have that kind of personality in real life, if you like that kind of mc's, try reincarnation Paradise.
