For instance, character parallels to another?

I think on that note, one story I did. The protagonist was parallel to the antagonist. They were pretty much two sides of the same coin.

On the fundamental level, they were similar. They both shared the same goal, they were both very devoted.

They do what is necessary. At the core, they were very much alike.

The difference was the method on one point, a breaking point that had them on opposite sides. Just one thing the protagonist could not allow, which ends up being the reason for their growth throughout the story.

In the end, the two were like mirrors of one another.

What about you lot? :meowsip:

I do a lot of these, but my favorite parallel characters of all time are T'Challa (Black Panther) and Erik Killmonger.

Both of them are fatherless which shaped their beliefs. Both of them hold the world responsible for injustice against them and black people in general.

The difference is that, unlike Killmonger, Black Panther didn’t allow his vengeance to completely consume him and retained his morality. In the end, they wanted the same thing, but one just wanted it more.

My main antagonist of my story hasn't been introduced yet in my story and won't be for quite some time but my MC is a parallel to him. They have similar lives but my MC Elias chooses a different choices from my main villain.

Have two side characters who are parallel to each other the the way that one is a child who suffered neglect due to their father being a serial adulterer, while the other is a child neglected and abused due to being born from adultery. One of them has a problem with idealizing all their relationship with others despite everything she's gone through, while the other has been completely sobered by the cruelty of others and doesn't fully trust anyone. Etc.

There are other parallels, but my brain can't think of them right now. Or they're basically major spoilers I haven't written yet.

In Strange Awakening I play indirectly with parallels, whenever Kelly refers to the life he remembers compared to the life she is now living. About half the characters have parallels in that context.

My entire story is a parallel between the 4 protagonist's reaction to similar events.

Heck, with my 16+ guest narrators, it's a parallel between even more than just those 4.

So yeah. In a nutshell, it's all my story is about.

"What happens when X change?"
"Well, that depends on who you are, doesn't it?"
