Just a quick question for anyone who has been writing on the site for awhile: how big does a book have to get (views, readers, etc) for there to be a good chance of hitting the trending rankings?

I understand it can happen for smaller books under certain criteria, but I am more curious in learning the point at which the book gets too big NOT to go trending at some point in time.

My book (Contaminated) is at 2k views, for reference...would 10k be enough? Or 100k?

Uhm, I believe it's not specifically about the views per se, but the amount gained in a short time? Like, if your story has a boom and gains a lot of traction in a short amount of time, it might end up on the Trending page. But I've never been there, so don't take my word for it.

I'm at 300k. Haven't made it to trending even once. The most I got was 18th place or something.

Alice said it. don't think of it in terms of views/readers/favorites/etc as plain numbers, but as percentage gained over X period of time. I think it updates weekly, so if your story gains more readers in a week than others, you're more likely to get on trending. That said, I also don't believe there is a solid "X+Y= trending" formula. A lot of the time, it seems almost random, so I think it may be a mix of all factors. like the fastest growing on the site, with some exceptions. it might be limited to 1 book per genre (thus, having more genres is more entries), or best in tags, or whatever.

No one knows because it keeps getting changed the moment someone figures it out and starts abusing it. Consistent upload schedules and lots of separate interactions are needed though.

I don't know how the Trending works here, but I know how it doesn't work.

My story somehow managed to reach Trending several times, but fell from it just as often.

It is not threshold based. I am certain of it. No value above X to quality for spot Y.

It is not growth based. That's what the Royal Road has. Royal Road's Trending is essentially steady growth over a period. All lists on the Royal Road are (often exponential) growth based.

Here, Trending works in bursts. I suspect Trending is a burst of views in the period of a day, possibly less. What qualifies as a view, however, I am not quite certain, most likely to prevent abuse through bots.

I've gotten on the board multiple times recently, even a few times getting #1, and I have no clue. I thought it was simple traction (how many people simply clicked on the lage for your story), but saw that I had less than say, a week ago. So, honestly, I'm pretty sure it's totally random.

I've been tracking this for a few months with my app. The amount of views is relative to the total daily views. For example, if all site views today are 2M, and your novel has 40k it's responsible for 2% of all total views today.

There are other factors of course, like reactions and consistency. Your novel is graded and scored. The higher the score, the higher the likelihood of appearing on trending.

And of course, a premium author account significantly bumps your score.

Yeah, I had someone tell me I made it to the front page on Trending once; when I checked I was at 14, then 16, and then have not been in the top 200 since so I think percentage increase is a big factor.
