Trending, how does it work?

I confess, I searched the site for this information, but I'm terrible with the internet and didn't find it anywhere... it could be right there starring me in the face and I'm too stupid to notice so, if a kind sir or madam could help?

A few days ago, a fanfic I'm writting got into the trending page, I was pretty happy with that and enjoyed the time in the spotlight.

Next day it fell off and disapeared, I shrugged, I'd like it to stay in trending for much longer but... that's life.

Then I noticed that another Fanfic of mine got into trending, in a much lower position, but it got in... only thing was, this fic was FAR less popular than the first one, it had FAR less views and I hadn't even posted a chapter that day.

I had posted a new chapter on the first fanfic... it had gotten in second place and I posted a chapter to comemorate, but it just disapeared not only from the first page, but from the second one as well.

So, how does trending work? Is it from the views? the ratings? The number of stars?

I'm really curious.

There's multiple threads on this, no one has completely figured it out. But I'm confident that it's a mixture of engagement (favorites, comments etc.) and relative chapter and page views on a day to day cycle, with maybe the latter given more preference.

Essentially you could easily get toward the top of trending if the disparity between views in successive days is as great as it can be. A difference of say 100,100 views to 100,000 is weighted lower than say 1000 views to 0 views (which is possible if say you had a committed viewership, went on hiatus, and then posted again). Although I would say the former is preferable for healthy viewership.

In any case, consistent posting will always get more favorable results than gaming the trending system.

Nobody knows. That's the best part.

Well, Tony knows but he keeps that to himself.

'Tis a secret held by only the server owner, Tony. A secret he keeps under lock and key. Even the moderators do not know. The answer is believed to lie in a bunker buried deep within the moon, but that isn't confirmed. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to be building a space ship for no reason at all.

I'm willing to bet he doesn't know himself

There is a guy Tony hired, he just sits in a room all day and decides what's what.

Dude... did you have to show my stupidity quite so clearly?

I mean... I already knew I fucked up when they said there's multiple threads about it, no need to rub my face in it
That’s the glory of a newbie. No need to be ashamed of it. :blob_sir:
