Me and a friend made plans to go this party tonight. I'm already here but the dude bailed on me.
I'm just asking right now for tips on how to get acquainted with strangers at a party.

Walk up to the most attractive person of your preferred gender you can find, and give them a long and rambling summary of your story. Shift into long side tangents about your creative process and any related concepts that spring to mind.
It probably won’t work but if it does, they are a keeper.

I would say go home. However, if you really want to stay and socialize, I would suggest grabbing a cup of whatever drink is available(it helps calm you by having a cup in hand) and find a person or two who aren't talking to anyone. Introduce yourself and explain that you came with "friend who bailed." they bailed. Now you wanted to know if they would be so kind as to introduce you.

If they're not a douche then they'll probably understand and either talk to you for a bit or will get you over with some people they know.

Okay, this is kind of a dick move but if no one knows you and you know no one there, you can do the old snag and dash. Grab their liquor and leave. Enjoy the drinks at home. I do not condone this but my little brother has done this at enough parties to know it's insanely easy if everyone is already a little drunk.

Those things happen. I usually hang around the food until I eventually find other people hanging around the food too. I usually ask what's their favorite dinosaur but you don't have to do that. Just do what Paul said and you should be fine.
