I set a story in a modern world for the first time. Naturally, it is an alternate reality. I decided to include a disclaimer in the next scheduled chapter.
This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, businesses, events, locales, and incidents either are products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Any resemblance to actual businesses or events or locales or persons, living or dead, is entirely coincidental.

This book is not intended as a substitute for the magical advice of certified wizards. The reader should regularly consult a wizard in matters relating to magic, particularly with respect to any spells they seek to maintain or defend against.
Have you ever used one? What are your opinions? A waste of space? A fun piece of satire? A must-have?

Cheers mates!

I had a story where characters bought pear yphones, Major Canada was popular Parvels hero MC liked, MC was working in GalaxyBucks, where she was just cute little teen having her cute romance with superhero. Just your classical superhero chick story.

Now when you mention it, pony with their console, or maybe ninterdo about their Super Radio game could send Cease and desist

If you go to actual publication that is standard (unless it's a work of parody or you intentionally used real people for some reason). If you are not selling it for profit, you should not need the disclaimer, but if you hope to make money from it, you probably should have one.

Probably my favorite disclaimer so far was the one on both of the Guyvver live action films - "No Zoanoids were harmed in the production of this film."

The traditional publishing usually needs the disclaimer, but it is simply better to avoid the mentions of public figures, celebrities and companies altogether. They have too much money to spend on lawsuits, so better not invoke them at all.

It's a fictional alternate universe. You could rename the companies etc.

You still need to declare the setting fictional and all similarities with reality are coincidental afterwards.
