Etymology has the source o the word "romance" from "all roads lead to rome": as the first major unified civilization since ancient greece, Rome was a force that took it's essence from it's own city, naming all new territories "Roman" & building a road that was as a light leading -> civil harmony or peaceful progression; don't make a mistake- peace requires an objective standard (at whatever level) if you would have Man's ideals flourish.

"All roads lead to Rome" essentially indicates each plot creates an ideal

Hence, "Romanticism" was adopted during civilisation's Rebirth (renaissance) as the Art standard representing idealism (Edmond Rostand's Cyrano de Bergerac {check out the 1950 movie} serves as a good "Renaissance Man"; depicting this artistic type).

However, romantic art became hijacked via religious mysticism, & as those who 'reject' reason would naturally behave, they divorce 'true' ideals from any this-worldly form or success... So 'romantic' art became empty ideals without substance, glass cannons sans even any glass.

This lead -> a counter-movement called "Naturalism" that 'rejected', rather than reason, ideals

It suggested art as "recording life" rather than the original romanticism: projecting what Life could & ought achieve

They suggested painters excel in 'art' via exact muse-depiction rather than letting a muse inspire your imagination. Or a writer take examples from the average human specimen & tell about what events may unfold

Essentially, it was the other side of the coin | neo-romanticism & naturalism each rejected an essential making up who you are (reason or mind & ideals or values)

Ayn Rand was a novelist-philosopher who sought the original romantic tradition, so she wrote The Romantic Manifesto denoting & advocating "Romantic Realism" embracing reason, mind, ideals, values, flesh, emotions, objectivity

This is a lot of words to say “The author makes a framework and the reader has to use their imagination to fill in the gaps”

Assholes like this are why art gets such a bad reputation. What authority are you on writing if you write nearly incomprehensible garbage like this?

I don't think that's what the point is supposed to be, but that doesn't speak in favor either.

My interpretation, and please correct me if I'm wrong.

TLDR for the first: There must be intention in every choice made in art. An apple that's 1 cm bigger than normal? Yeah, that's gonna be scrutinised buddy. And scrutinised it should, since art is subjective. I wouldn't call it objective. Ever.

Unless it's hentai. I'm not going to spent time scrutinising why one nipple is slightly higher than the other, and wonder if there's a deeper reason behind the smut author's brush strokes.

TLDR for the second: Art is usually a critique on reality or reflection. I remember stuff like De Goya's '1808' which depicted the Napoleon massacre in Spain, which is more literal but stylised to emphasize the tragedy and good vs bad.

Stuff like Salvador Dali's Surrealism was more on the escapism of war/reality during WW2, so that itself can be a reflection of reality since it was inspired by real life, tragic events. (Yes, I did art classes. It was fun picking apart why a bottle represented the literal fall of humankind).

This is where hentai comes in. With the amount of hentai art available it is truly a reflection of our society. What does it say about us?

That we prefer anime people more than irl ones. That's what.

/S just in case.

The nipple's in the correct place via a REASON

Otherwise, there would be no REASON it arouses you (hence, you would not be aroused)

The good reason there's so much hentai? :People seek the essence o their values, & so they search via the most obvious expression where they may successfully view their climax; since porn has objective popularity & relateable objective standards indicating beauty that's tied with your own unique idea on pleasure or exciting sexual story, depicting fantastical nudity releases a person from societal-nonsense & simultaneously permits & promotes elucidated amiable relations alongside those who admire your sealed meta-expression.

Regarding "modern art" where a toilet seat or a random splash o red & pink paint = art... That's pure nonsense
