The Difference Between Romance and Horror

So, I was writing myself a little horror story. Which shifted to dark romance steadily. But I was told it was still horror. I was curious about something. Keeping everything the same, I swapped the two main characters genders and names. That was It. The entire story played out the exact same way. It was rated Romance. No Dark Romance, Romance. I have no words.

Forbidden knowledge. Characters going to places they shouldn't and discovering things they would not have otherwise known. Characters initially resisting their instincts, then giving in to them.
Yeah, kind of similar.... especially if you ask Rosemary about her baby...
