I often read amateur novels on ScribbleHub and translated LNs and WNs and get ideas about whats missing from the usual roster of isekai, generic epic fantasy and really bizarre attempts at scifi. Something that I'd love to read but dont want to, can't, or don't have time to write.

I have a bit of time in my schedule, between working on an ongoing project and real life stuff these days, so I want to try filling this void a little even if the story wont be a roaring success.

Does anyone have these novels that don't exist but you'd love to see? What's the concept and themes?

I want to see something similar to manhwa Breaker and Veritas. No isekai, no reincarnation, no transmagration, no systems or cheat, no comedy as the main genre. Modern world + martial arts. Martial arts being not the usual stuff, like for example karate or MMA, but something from a wuxia.

There is one story I thought about writing, but Probably won't; A S.O.L cultivation story. I mean, a proper s.o.l. The story would start and by the time it ends, maybe the mc would move up about one "stage" in whatever the power system is there, but no more. It would be a story that really focuses on how a sect might work and function, including interactions with non-cultivators.

So many of them are dog-eat-dog type worlds where the "noble" cultivators' character is about as bad as the demonic cultivators, and the mc and his companions breeze through the stages and become immortal superfast.

So, a story in which the MC cultivates the "dao of the lazy snail", in a honourable sect with honourable elders, and the demonic cultivators are hunted down and killed before they get a chance to interact with the MC.

believe it or not I had a bunch of ideas similar to the first one. Though it was more along the lines of inter-dimensional colonialism + possession. A setting where humans discovered inter-dimensional travel first and these giant super empires balooned exponentially until conquering otherworlds and draining them of smart people and resources was industrialized. The main instrument of this conquest would be a mecha-like remote controlled drone that uses parts from otherworldly creatures integrated with technology, and the protagonist would be this guy who was split down the metaphysical middle by desynch and damage to the mecha's transmitters, effectively leaving a perfect clone of his consciousness in a robot body while the real him seizes out and then just keeps working for the human empire military.

That sounds dope, Is the mech completely autonomous or does it have cockpit? How would you approach the plot? For instance, it could start like MC gains consciousness in a broken robot in the middle of nowhere on a primitive planet and a waifu in danger find shelter in the mech. For the beginning it could be about making their way out of the planet and repair the mech. But I imagine there are more serious way to start a galactic adventure

Well-orchestrated shared-universe series where a bunch of writers are contributing at the same time.

Back in the 1980s a lot of well-known sci-fi and fantasy authors started shared universes where a ton of other authors would write stories in one setting, usually published as a series of anthologies, where you could follow the characters from one book to the next, they would cross over or all be dealing with the same global problems or events, and so forth. For instance, George R. R. Martin had “Wild Cards,” which was a “tons of people develop superpowers suddenly” setting, and Robert Aspirin had “Thieves World” which was a dark-fantasy city setting with lots of meddling gods. I never read C.J. Cherryh’s “Merovingen Nights” or Janet Morris’s “Heroes in Hell” (which is apparently “everyone from throughout history ends up in hell together and fights against demons”) but they’re similar ideas.

I always thought those were so cool and not sure why people don’t do them more these days outside of pure fanfic or settings that share rules but not characters, like the Omegaverse. To do something more tied together, with concurrent characters and events, the internet, wikis, and so forth would theoretically make it much easier.

I've said it before, but I'd love to see a comedy Isekai full of Monty Python / Hitchiker's Guide era British Comedy.

I even had an idea for the 1st chapter of such an Isekai in which the protagonist lives in a town where just about everyone has both had and returned from an Isekai adventure except for him, and it's just taken as a normal everyday thing in that town. He, however, desperately wants to avoid being Isekaied, and one day when it's his turn, he spends the entire day dodging and avoiding Isekai scenarios that take all kinds of forms ranging from the typical Truck-kune scenario to sigils of light to some somewhat more unusual scenarios such as mysterious children appearing or all sorts of other things. And the protagonist can recognize all these things coming because the stories have circulated around town, and he's desperately avoiding all of them.

Meanwhile, other townspeople start criticizing him for avoiding his Isekai (using the usual Montey Python style tone of criticism) while he's playing the straight-man saying all the reasons why obviously someone shouldn't want to be killed or kidnapped into a mysterious other world and all these people are crazy for thinking it's normal.

Finally, he avoids a brush with death-triggered Isekai and winds up in the hospital. While he's in the hospital, finally a warp-gate catches up with him, and catches the entire hospital in the effect, and then a crowd complains at him for getting all these people caught up in his Isekai because he was being all selfish and wanting to do all that crazy stuff to avoid it.

Problem is, that starting premise was all I had. I didn't really have anything after that, so I never took on the project.

But, yeah, the focus of the series would be a LOT of genre savvy and people being way too on-the-nose when calling out and making fun of various tropes in the typical British-style comedy way.

If I had to list out every single one of them, it would take me a really long time.

One I can mention now though is a group isekai, but not like most jp novels do similar things. I'm thinking of something more similar to Infrasound Berserker, which is a sort of group apocaypse survival story. It has only one main character, but it focuses on a small group of survivors - and where most novels would introduce some outside dactor within five chapters, that story doesn't do it for a long time. Long enough to start to wonder if there will be any.

What I'd like to see specifically is an isekai group survival story, which is pretty narrow but it's not like it's a rigid outline; if it's a fantasy or supernatural or sci-fi is irrelevant to me.

I've seen quite a few that start out in a similar fashion, but very quickly abandon the idea in favor of quicker plot development. That is exactly what I don't want to see; if it's a survival story, I expect the main cast of four to eight people to remain in that survival situation for a couple of weeks at the very least, ideally without any larger time skips. Better if it's months or even years.

In the original concept, its like remote controlled drones, no pilot involved. The person controlling it would enter a sarcophagus-like contraption to project their consciousness into the mech through the boundary between worlds. So its more like a sci fi version of possession.

I often find myself in a situation where i have a banger premise but absolutely NO idea what to do with it lol i completely feel your pain there. Its especially terrible when you kinda know what youre doing, writing wise, and know all the rules on a technical level, but arent good at prose. Its torture fr.

I have this concept for a survival type story in a world where magic is a very faint force and the setting is just getting started. The protagonist would find himself spirited away to a world thats about as developed as the precambrian. There's oxygen, but no complex, visible life. It would take decades for him to slowly develop magic that can bring about complex living creatures, and by that point, he would have absorbed enough of the local mana-equivalent that he becomes functionally immortal. I envisioned it as something like a more fleshed out story of Pygmalion, the greek guy who made a living being out of marble. Only in this context, he'll be the unknowing architect of all life and most stuff in the setting, and then, once people start getting spirited away to this world, he'd become a demon-lord-like existence because hes immortal and has all these creatures at his beck and call.
