Does anyone remember the manga where magic is just basically appeasing the spirits, and it was like magic became super convoluted because the spirits would make up shit to allow people to borrow their magic. But for spirits their agreements are basically contracts so even after they stop being amused by the silly thing they made someone do it was still in effect.
So there was no like standard basis for how to do a spell cause like every spell had some weird requirement.
Some made you sing or dance,some made you say some weird stuff, some made you walk with only one shoe.
But the MC just got around all the sillyness by just being one of the few able to talk with the spirits directly.
It was funny because Grimoires were basically a list of pranks spirits did that have dire consequences now
