Some tropes that I am uncomfortable reading

These are tropes that always make me feel like something bad is going to happen to the character that’s on the receiving end. Other readers might beg to differ, and that’s fine. I am just here to ramble.

Let’s first go with mental issue. This one I have pinpointed some reasons as to why it feels ominous.

By mental, I mean a lot of things, like telepathy of Marvel mutants, split personalities, psychological manipulation like Mr Visionary Adam and Mr Error Amon, and even self-inflicted problem like being lost in some emotion (usually anger/bloodlust), or the opposite, losing emotion. It is NOT about stuffs like interpersonal relationship, loss of closed one or general emotional issue, though these can be contributing factors.

I feel like in a lot of stories, we are so used to seeing characters overcome challenges related to power, so when this different type of challenge comes up, it feel a lot harder to overcome. Though, I think that maybe most humans have an instinct that wants to keep our mind working normally, and that kicks in even when I read fictional stories, which makes me uncomfortable.

Second is borrowed power. Think of it like the new Beyonder Sequences in COI, where it can be taken away by the being that granted it. Or summoner where your summons doesn’t listen to you. Or just temporary power that can’t be consistently used. I personally just hate the uncertainty, and the fact that the character is not in control. Well, I am pretty sure me having those feelings means that the author is doing a good job, but I really don’t like it.

That’s all. I am just thinking that how I look at these tropes should not be just exclusively me, right? Also, are there any other tropes that make any of you feel the same?

i just hate when a mc as a baby or as a kid is op as fuck. a lot of the time they have plot armor saying bs to save their ass. like i am a baby who is reincarnated , in my past life i was a hero . oh this life i am born as a baby. okay and as a baby i killed a beast or defeated a knight who is a adult who has been training all his life and has muscles dedicated to it built all his life for the sake of sword. makes zero sense to be that op. even if he can reinforce himself with mana or shit. they make babies or a kid op as fuck without giving them the dam bodies. make him op okay but give the kid or the baby the body with muscles . and kids lifting a full fledge sword which is at least half their weight. man as much as i hate them to lift the sword at least give the body its due respect , put some dam muscles for them to lift that sword.

The obligatory arc in every romance, where there is a misunderstanding which leads to the two lovers arguing, yell at each other, leave, cheat, there is more misunderstandings, and finally they are back together at square one. Like, what did it bring to the story except an imaginary conflict ? And why does every romance has such toxic characters that can't communicate properly and explain the first misunderstandng so that the situation doesn't escalate ?

People should really learn that those kind of relationships are not normal, and you can bring enough spice to your story with external factors, no need to suddenly change your characters into communication-deprived buttholes.

(Sorry, I just read a story like that and got angry)

i mean most of the time i see the author has not been in a relationship or doesn't know to write a conflict. these romantic novels create a sense of miscommunication for no apparent reason. and add lack of logic and create some rage baits. lost track on how many romantic novels do it.

I personally hate it when characters lose their power, I also dislike story arcs where other people forget the MC, and finally time travel.
That’s why you got Truck-kun.

1. Perfect excuse to lose power.

2. Perfect excuse to forget everything about the MC.

:blob_popcorn:
Why? Because you’ll be too busy wondering where the hell that truck came from. :meowsip:

Sadly, this is what became popular. I’ve done research on this in the past, even got some people to tell me why they like these sort of stories.

It all boils down to one thing in the end, and that is living a fantasy without the risk of actually living it. I’ve met people who got into some messed up relationships because of it.

Don’t worry about them though, they learned the lesson the hard way, and managed to get out somehow.

Hmmm. Maybe time travel? I feel like it's possible to do well but most authors fail to actually pull it off properly. For example, a lot of the time authors pull out stuff like "alternate reality" and "this 'you' isn't that 'you'." when using time travel.

where it [power] can be taken away by the being that granted it.
I think this concept could be cool. Especially in cases where the power is quickly gained, it makes sense that the power is also quickly lost. It just makes perfect philosophical sense.

I believe the concept of this, is that time isn’t really linear. Actions create outcomes, and those outcomes can have many possibilities.

In short, in theory. The you now may have been different given a different environment. Though, I suppose this is more in line with parallel worlds.

I swear I'm going to have a mech stomp truck-kun flat and kick him like a football in my new fiction.
?

That aside, I had my MC lose their power four times. :blob_popcorn:

First book, their memories were sealed. Which meant their power was also sealed. In the finale, that’s when they reawakened and for the first time you see them truly unshackled.

Second book(prequel), their power was sealed away in the past. Their memories eventually got scrambled, etc. When their power started to actually grow, that was in mid Chapter 7.

Book 3(sequel to the prequel which ends just after the first book)

They were captured by the antagonist and had their memories sealed away. However, you do see small instances when they temporarily break their seal. Regaining their memories halfway in, and their true evolution in the finale. :blob_popcorn:

Book 4,

This happens in the finale for like most of it. All of this was a build up to their next evolution which started way back in the first release in this section.

To cut it short, they stepped into a trap and got sealed into a corpse by the antagonist. :blob_popcorn:

Don’t worry though, didn’t forget anything. XD

I ain’t joking, I had to keep track of a lot of info. More than usual, since the way the main fights changes the longer they are in battle. :blob_blank:

the "I THOUGHT MY FAMILY LOVED ME BUT TURNS OUT THEY HATED ME AND STAGED MY MURDER. NOW THAT I HAVE TURNED BACK TIME, IT'S TIME TO SERVE REVENGE" tropes
too many, I need some originality

social retards somehow being popular and well received by their peers despite lacking all cognitive functions to fit in, when conflicts are black and white and MC is always in the "right" side, characters being pure evil because they personify something outside the novel the author is against, when mc preach author's political or economic ideas as gospel when all ideologies of any kind are flawed, when "evil" characters have shit justifications because author can't conceive appropriately articulated opposition, when the "price" of a power outweighs the benefit manyfolds to the point where not using the power would make little to no difference in the narrative, when characters are in a permanent state of "daddy" or "mommy" dominatrix state, when most of the story happens in the mc's bedroom or house for no particular reason, and many more tbh

All that aside, truck-kun is a beloved character that has a special place in our anime community.
