Based on reading smut for women and smut for men, I think generally people prefer that the character they don't relate to makes the first move. People want the other person to take the risk of putting themselves out there, and like to imagine the ego boost of the relatable character being very desirable

The main exception here is noncon, where men seem to enjoy relating to the agressor as often as they enjoy relating to the victim. Strangely enough, (straight) women don't tend to write noncon where women are agressors, even though they have no problem writing non-sexual violent fantasies, or noncon where women aren't predatory. Probably something about gendered expectations

In the rare cases when I read straight smut, I do have some preferences, but I don't think it's possible to generalize them so. There's a few dynamics I like on either side of the spectrum, and so long as they're written well, I don't really care which of them it is.

If I had to choose though, probably woman on top? Hard to say.

Like any good movie enjoyer would say : AS LONG ITS GOOD

My own catchphrase is : A good chef, is one that can make a client like a dish that he usually doesnt
AS for my personal preference : the woman on top
BUT depends also on which type of women. AND too much of it is also bad.

Switching is best.
Just like i am tired of seeing yuri Raikou + Shuten Douji where always its Shuten Douji on top and raikou the submissive.
(cant someone write a ff/doujin where she lose her memory and raikou take advantage of it to have a wholesome date with her !???? with a bonus of Shuten blushing secretly like a little girl after she re-awaken her memories and go back in her room?????)

Also, another thing would be : which one is popular. Which would be too long to debate, and an entirely topic elsewhere.

I have a feeling the popular one would be woman being the aggressor, but I might be wrong

Depends on how aggresive we are talking about. Also depends on the readerbase. In my experience of reading shoujo and josei, works targeted at women, women are rarely an aggressor\top.

Not really.
You very likely right.

There are too many (in particular SH)
where its the man, topping women.

But also bc the demography of authors is male, readers are male. Hence logical to write a MALE MC in control in smut.
And even if there are "female authors" they mostly write yuri/futa or non-smut.

So, like the old logic : what is rare is precious (/popular)
So yes, a top woman series would be popular currently, on SH.
But who could write a good one, depends on author. Just like not anyone could have done Onepunch-man despite clearly easy premise.

PS : a top woman, with a male MC/Protag. A female protag/pov would turn off male readers.

Welp sailus also explained the same thing, in shortened form.
As expected from the Immortal Sage of SH.

would be so popular as a fanfic/doujin

but nope.
Its futa x bottom Subaru
(wryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy !!!!)

(the art is a cover of one of the bunch of doujins from same artist doing futa x bottom subaru)

PS : Dont tell my wife Botty about it. XD She likely wont like it as Subaru not true femboy. But "JUST IN CASE".

I'm fine with either, as long as the pov is the man/woman on the bottom.

Switch-y Scenes.

There will be no further elaboration or communication.
