Why don't authors do shoutout swaps here?

They're the #1 way of promotion on RR. Any particular reason?

What's the precise step by step procedure of how that works.

No one is wrong about seeking honest and constructive feedback. But seeking feedback through a mutually beneficial exchange is problematic... and actually keeps you from honest feedback. Why?

Because you're turning feedback into a "transaction" that's simply about "profit." As a result, the person giving the feedback may be reluctant to give you honest feedback.

In a mutually beneficial transaction, both parties inherently want to please each other. This prevents someone from being honest. That's why review swaps often end up just complimenting each other.

If you want honest feedback, then make it a voluntary activity. People are more likely to be open and honest when it's voluntary because they don't feel obligated to "please" the other party. They're simply speaking their mind.

That's why the best feedback... comes from readers who are interested in your story, even if it's hard to come by.

The way I did it was:
1. Find a story I was envious was on Trending,
2. realize it shared elements with mine and was well written.
3. DM the author (hi @SukiSays)
4. We each wrote a short blurb and put links to each others stories in the next chapters using the news heading.
5. Also did a reveiw swap, but only because we actually liked each others work. I agree with @Juia_Darkcrest that its disingenuious otherwise, and not useful here since it isn't a driver of visibility like on RR.
6. Profit: the next day we were #1 and #2 on the site sorting by activity.

You make it sound like it is a good driver of visibility!

Since we're on the subject, this is what I'm reading lately. I really love it; all the humor of the great Douglas Adams, and the visceral horror and fantasy of Neil Gaiman. It's wonderful! It should be a Top Trending here, I don't know why it's not. All respect to @goldenphonix

To answer all of you: always a risk! Most of the people that reach out to me on RR for shoutouts are.... very nice. In those cases, you usually just ignore them. That's really the worst case scenario, no-one's gonna chase your ass down because you asked.

Can you tell I support making this part of the culture here? Unlike review swaps, there's really no deceptive downside, just helping visibility for your genre.

Hiya :blobspearpeek: Monster Girls and Smut are kinda my thing. How can I help you?
Your story is awesome! But I should have specified that I'm going to look for genderswap tagged stuff. I *think* thats what my readers like

My story is about being a monster girl and fucking men(among other things), yours is about being guy and fucking monster girls (among other things). Both good, but different
