Then... strong, with emotions, and can roast anything, from the shoes someone is wearing to a squirrels fingernails.
I've seen a person that fits that description. If I remember, it is Yuri Lowell from Tales of Vesperia.

Hmmmm... never heard of it... hehehe...
It's fine. But seriously, I am too knowledgeable about the fact that I probably need to stop playing games. Oh well, I'll be writing anyway on Thursday... so no more games.... sad.

  1. Give them a buildup. Strong characters (strong talent for something be it strength, intellect, magic, etc.)
  2. Give them a backstory. Make them develop so they're not just superman when you need one for plotholes.
  3. Or give them very brief scenes and dialogue but interesting enough that makes them seem mysterious or badass and cool.
  4. Unless you character is parody of something, and one that actually works, make your characters have some flaws. Those things that complicate their goal and what they have to climb over to get to their resolution.

I would say just make them likable. Humorous is probably a big part if you're going for a Han Solo type. You also want to make sure to give them ample background to justify all the cool things you want them to do.

So like Saitama from One Punch Man (strength), Desir from A Returner's Magic Should Be Special (intellect and magic), or Yamato Naoe from Majikoi (intellect). Hmm... I guess there's a lot out there that I remember to be so goddamn badass.

Oh, hmm... like Adol Christin from Ys or Olivier Lenheim from Legend of Heroes, huh? Both are likable, whimsical, and badass in a way.

Make sense.

Saitama doesn't enjoy fighting because of his overpowered power. Yamato and Desir aren't good with fighting close combat because they aren't built strong and consider themselves a tactician and magician.

?Okay listen, here is the main secret ingredient to creating a badass character.
The main secret ingredient to creating a badass character is to have your character uniquely achieve a lot of unachievable things, make your character aspirable, make your character do or have something that makes them unique from other badass characters, and make readers want to subconsciously be or have your badass character's positive attributes while still maintaining your character as a character (strengths, flaws, all that kind of stuff) within your story.

I say subconsciously because if they wanted to be your badass character, your character might lose their identity as you continue writing that character out and as a result become a hollow character. Unless your character has a fleshed out story-wise reason for why your character acts and thinks the way to they do, your character should be fine and will be a certified badass character. ??

Give them a backstory full of pain. Really drag them across the five circles of hell. Show their internal struggles. Characters who overcome that feel Badass.

As an example - Jiraiya from Naruto.

give them the no fucks given attitude.
that is the secret ingredient no one knows about.

While all side characters are sad over first bandit death this guy is torturing the bandits so they tell him where they hid there gold.
{make him distribute the gold to the poor. So he doesn't come of as a prick but the guy who plays by end justifies the means.}

Don't make him self justified though. He should realize that these people had no choice but to turn to banditary and how sad it was.

He should know that it is a very fucked up situation but also that getting sad won't really help the situation and just break him.
SO better just laugh at the bullshit.

but also that there is no other choice . So instead of bitching about it he is going to whatever it takes to make it better while laughing at stupidity of the world instead of crying at it's evil .

Make him the protagonist who uses lot of black comedy.

Make them monologue a little about society (how no one is there true self everyone is wearing a mask of fake politeness and just quietly suffering and then dying. Worst of all they are letting this continue)[you live in japan you know what i am talking about ]

Make them laugh with a slight maniacal tint at the shit life throws at them .

EDIT: I Just realized make him a realistic average teenager. Don't make him a Japanese MC

Try using Levi from attack on titan as reference. He's one of the most badass characters I know as well as Erwin.
