I got a chapter comment on chapter one (great story) or something from a user created yesterday and immediately commenting on 5 first chapters similar encouragement, all 12h ago. While we all dig this as authors, I wonder if it is a bot. (See the comments here.) Are there encouragement bots out there?

I recently returned to writing in Webnovel, spreading my stories. God... I suffered ten bots of them in a single sitting. I remembered how four years ago, I excitedly looked at comments in webnovel from readers who wanted to see more of my fanfic. Times are changing. SH has fewer bots, but still... It makes you look back at the past.

Edit: Ah shi- I just tried poking around the mysterious comments that came my way in WN. Asking me to to insta or twitter and it was a woman, at least, and I think its Ukranian posting war pics, account made from 2021. I now suddenly feel like a jerk. It's either they are getting creative or it's a different matter entirely, like shitload of coincedence or stuff.

I respond to some like this, and then immediately I get the soft-shoe dance, "I have great ideas for your characters in art form. Contact me."
I can't believe artists are this desperate.
FFS, do they know about the artists trade forums?
if they want commissions to do, how about going to one of those, posting an opportunity and see what happens.
That's how I got my comic artists. *^^*

They’re not artists, they’re scammers trying to make a quick buck by, at best, sending you some AI slop, outright stolen work, or if you’re lucky something real but very low effort/quality. That’s assuming you receive anything.

But they offer to do the art first.
So, can't I scam them right back by not paying for it? *^^*

I guess? I don’t know the full scam, though, so they might demand some info first, like a paypal address to send an invoice to or something. Maybe they’re fishing for personal information to dox people with, dunno.

I'll test it out next time.
If I can get a scammer to hand me free art, yay. *^^*

99% sure most or all of them send you a crude, ai-generated rough draft as "proof of concept" and then ask for payment (probably close to but a little less than the standard rate) to send the finished picture - and you never hear from them again.

Had this happening to me yesterday on two separate novels on two different accounts. It made me really confused at first, I've never had anyone unknown message me via DM just to give me a compliment. And then they pulled the concept art move at the same time so I knew it was a scam :')
