Have you ever feel like when reading some wishfullfiment stories that were very absolutely blatant, that you feel like you can just make it into very realistic reality representation by flipping/reversing the whole story or wording or event without much editing ?

Frequently when people say realistic they mean cynical, since cynicism tends to be SLIGHTLY closer to reality than excessive optimism. So yes, flipping hilariously overoptimistic tropes on their head will result in a cynical story that will ring true slightly more often.

Why do people like realistic novels so much?
I think of them as a gimmick personally.

If your story's main point of interest is "This isn't like those wish-fulfillment stories! MC suffers a lot!" without other hooks to the story, then you're just writing tragedy without the depth.

You're not unique for writing realistic stories, you're unique for writing great stories.

If the generic wish fulfillment story tropes reverse then it will become a masochistic story about the powerless MC getting gangbanged by everything and everyone, including the dogs in the street, not "realistic".

Everyone who reads my story says that, and that's why I have the lowest rating on Scribble Hub!

All people who want realistic stories HATE this SIMPLE trick to get depressed practically instantly!
It's called watching the news.
