TLDR; Add a "reply" button to comments under profile posts that will spawn a reply window with a @[username] prepared at the beginning of the comment.
As of now we cannot reply to profile posts or comments on profile posts.
Commenting on a profile post is not the same and I will illustrate it with this example:
You comment under a profile post, and go to have dinner. You come back, check shf and see like 99+ notifications because some people decided to have a discussion under the profile post, and you have nothing to do with this discussion.
"Now", you may say, "you know you can turn off notifications for that, don't you"
"Yes", I answer, "You can. But consider this situation:"
Somebody did message you under that heap of comments. But since you're a sane person, you do not scroll through this whole mess and simply put everything on "read" instead.
It'd be better if they explicitly mentioned you - you can turn on notifications for comments under a profile post you commented on but leave the comments that mention you in the notification feed - but it only leaves a rather simple way of implementing replies under a comment post to a specific user by adding to the comments a button that says "reply" and will create a comment window with @[username] already printed at the beginning. This small and easily implemented feature will add a lot more convenience to the user and help filter out spam much easier.
