Have you ever felt like a certain genre or plot for a story fits better for a certain nationality background? (Honestly, I don't know how to word it better…)

Currently, I'm juggling between writing with CN setting, EN setting, and JP setting. I'm thinking of writing a new story in a JP setting, but the plot (and the vibe(?)) seems to fit better in a CN setting. Should I just change it into CN or should I adapt the story to a JP setting? I feel like I won't be able to write it smoothly in a JP setting though…

The fact that you asked shows that you see it to be the problem it is.

Therefore, remove all doubt, and put the characters in the correct settings.

I do feel like doing this, but I challenged myself to cycle my stories in CN, EN, and JP settings in that order. After my current EN story, I should make a JP story after this. If I make this into a CN setting novel, means I'll skip making JP setting's novel. Should I just do that?

Unfortunately, I'm not that skillful yet… ?

Yes, because you can always come back to a JP story. You completed the EN story :)
Now write a good CN with a "spoiled young master" and make sure he's handsome :blob_reach: :blob_okay:

Write what you know, no point in writing a Japanese story just because it’s popular in anime/manga/LN. It’s popular in those things because it’s what the creators and audiences know, not because it’s inherently correct. Same reason most American tv shows have an American setting. If you find your own experiences to be too mundane to write about, just make up something altogether. You can’t get details wrong if you create every part of it.

You're right. I think the story will be awkward if I force it to become a JP setting.

Not particularly. I think what's more important is just having a good understanding of the culture and history if you're writing for a story that doesn't take place in your country or area. Doesn't mean you have to go to college and get a PhD or whatever, but details are important.

Just do an assimilation with the JP and the CN then add a little sauce of your own made up cultures as well. Then done!
