Reading novels isn't fun anymore at least for me. Notably, I've been noticing that there has been a large decline in the quality of novels posted on scribble hub following the collapse of Webnovels. And while the oversaturation of former WNs authors coming here and posting their often shitty fanfics here is a large part of why I have given up novels, I have been giving up on novels even prior to that. Since the Summer of last year, I have given up on reading novels in their entirety and I'd say that orientation towards not reading novels is possibly a me thing with an ever-changing mindset however it would more so be an accumulation of various factors if anything when accounting for realism. Currently, I am attempting to pick up reading novels again to try and re-spark my love for writing however I need several recommendations and some advice from yours truly.

I would recommend reading manga or watching movies in such case, although I don't think that's what you're looking for.

If you don't mind girl's love, you can to read We're Not So Different, You and I and try writing something similar, because it has a really unique composition and timeline that can really wake your brain cells up.

A more general recommendation from me would be The Eminence in Shadow that I'm sure you know, but with the focus on its meaning, not the storyline.

What it says in general, in my opinion, would be that you should work hard to make your actions have meaning. I don't think I can say that convincingly, but basically, no matter what you do, it will be meaningless and won't be worth putting effort into unless you yourself give it some meaning important to you. If you have that, you will get motivation to write - it's not without reason that revenge is often called the best motivation and that people can do everything for love, but it can apply to just about anything as long as it matters to the person in question.

...Did I get too deep? Anyway, yeah, that's the gist of what I think. I can't really help more because I'm myself still figuring things out with my writing, but, as far as I am, doing what I described really helped me.

well may be you need another hobby like gardening or dating ...
Just remember Do not do DRUGS!
Alchohol is fine but that is what you should take moderately as well!

PS: Or you can help me editing the prologue of a great novel (a work of mine), so that way it can become even better matching your expectations.

você one of the best options would be to distract from it (go to movies and series) and wait for a good story to come up, honestly I've been reading novels since they started translating against the gods and I've already noticed two or three declines until a novel appears that gives a new boom, like lord of mysteries, my house of horrors.
This particular decline is so bad that I'm resorting to fanfics (I had never read fanfics until the beginning of this year), try "wonder woman: twisted domain" by Ryswell. The auth writes really well.

There's a general decline in all of entertainment media, tho. For movies we have Star Was: The Rise of Mary Sue Skywalkingovereveryone, Marvels Apendages, DCs New Refurbished Innovated Justice League Reloaded 2.0, Onions made out of glass, Goth loli turning highschool musical and the hardcore feminist bastard child of a good childrens show that raped, killed and everyone's favorite dog...

Books (the real ones fare a bit better) but even there we have a slow decline to YA levels of writing and about as much vampire smut as we have GB harem here on smut hub.

And don't even get me started on games, tho...

Maybe watch a biopic about an influential person that you would like to know more about(for example, an acclaimed author), watch a documentary about a historic moment in time, or read a book that was written by authors that have written timeless works like "Journey to the center of the Earth:- by Jules Verne".

Well, anyway, here's my take on the 'quality' of works nowadays.

I do agree that it is going downhill. However, with the advent of social media, everyone's out to get their instant gratification ASAP. Attention spans are getting smaller, and almost everyone is on the rush.

Hence, many readers tend to throw away works that properly build on its premise, due to 'boring' parts. Another is their take on 'newcomers' (i. e. RoyalRoad), where they shoot down those who don't 'go their way', thus intimidating--or worst, discouraging--budding authors to diversify.

We can also look at the commercial aspects of writing. Like, a lot of contracts being offered nowadays favor only the publisher, hence, authors who wants to get popular have to appease their readers to stay afloat. And we all know that it's not always 'Vox Populi, Vox Dei'.

So yeah, quality and diversity suffer. Rare is a writer born with natural talent to write a first-time blockbuster. Most authors who make it big got lots of naysayers behind their backs, while there's also a share of encouragers.

My point is, we can be kinder to authors, especially the starting ones.

The starting ones are far better than the ones with experienced from what I've seen.

True.

It's because newbies are often filled with daring and ideas, only for those to disappear the moment they expose themselves to gatekeepers, connoisseurs and whiners.

Then the vicious cycle of stale, mass-produced tropes aiming to please those people begins.

In some cases, authors with potential get burned out from trying to chase after popularity (and/or confirmation), and so it's one point against quality and diversity of works.

Consider this: a lot of the 'classics' came out during a time when authors can focus on their work because social media is non-existent. Readers can still diss the story, but only in its final form, printed on a magazine or a book.

Nowadays, stories with potential get shot down before it takes off. Proof of that is the number of deleted works in sites like here.

Some may say, 'Well, if they can' t take the heat, stop on whatever they're writing.'

Here's the thing: I observed that writers have different motivations on why they do their stuff. It's not always for the money, or popularity. Some just wanted to tell a story. Or write out an idea in their heads.

They have no will or determination to push through bullshitry being thrown at them. Hence, the moment they received negative feedback, they either retreat or stop writing, taking their potentially-good ideas with them.

And what's left should bow to the 'industry' standard.

This is a big reason why I deliberately read newer or more obscure authors. I have found my 2 favorite novels of pretty much all time this way (well on sh anyway), and with particularly new readers I try to make sure I find something i like in their work.

I recently had a book i was reading get deleted aftet chapter one and I am saddened for it.

That said, if someone recommends me a high visibility author (esp a Famous Author), yeah my standards go way the fuck up. Think "Oh dear, oh dear, gorgeous" vs "You fucking donkey" I had damn well better enjoy the material lest I drop them because honestly they have their following and validation, I am literally invisible to them.

I haven't been reading lately so I don't know what's been good or bad. I've mainly just been adding books to my collection and reading list without actually reading them. Kind of a weird mood.

I thought I was the only one who noticed WN was dead. It's weird to me because it has had a lot of backing and only way to read translated CNs nowadays.
Perhaps this also shows how flawed their system is. They just increase prices, slow translations, and have no transparency. It's like unwilling to bring better changes to the website?
I wonder how the original authors are doing there...

Anyways, I recommend you try reading raws with google translate. I've been finding an overwhelming amount of novels but for me, there isn't much time to read them. Try MTLNation, although recently the pick-ups has been trash, I've noticed more activity over there.
