So eventually I'll post what I've been posting on another site here on SH, and when I post it I'll likely be uploaded as quickly as I can so there are no gaps... but...

I was wondering if anyone else has had readers try to influence your story?
Before I transferred the story over there, I had several readers persistently trying to get me to "speed up" or write the story the way they want... now it's just one.

-_-

I'm like... I don't have a Patreon here. I'm not collecting any money either. I want to finish the project and move on, because sometimes you realize a story doesn't have much potential only after you start writing it.

Me be like: I don't give a care, I write my trash as I like.
But if the reader has a good critique, then I will consider his opinion to fix what I lax in my next project

I mean Stonelight is known for requesting stories go a specific way, if they're the one in particular suggesting you rewrite things. I tend to treat my readers as nothing more than inspiration when they bring cool insight to the table.

Oh no, it's not "re-writing" it's... "Please speed up to the end"

If stories go too long readers get fatigued. Also, continuing a story often leads to bad writing. I've been posting one chapter a day.

I think this has a lot to do with authors not planning a broader arc than it does with actual writing quality. They finish their story they set out to finish, or get agonizingly close, then they add lots of padding to fill it out.

Yeah, problem is I've planned all my chapters already. I'm not going back and re-planning it. My issue is writing quality. You can't put out good quality posting one 1.5k chapters a day without a good editor on board.

I've got some advice and a lot of valid criticism, but I don't think readers ever hurried me or tried to influence my writing. At least, that's how I perceived it. Oh, and a couple of readers asked why I wrote certain things the way I wrote them. I didn't find those questions annoying, even the stupid ones.

It's not criticism, or critiquing questions I'm getting. It's. "hurry up and skip to the last reincarnation."

Generally it tells me two things. 1. The reader is invested. 2. The reader is fatigued.

I don't blame the reader, but at the same time I just want to finish this project, get my 1 star ratings on SH and move on.

EDIT: When I say finish, I mean finish it the way I planned.

Maybe I got one or two comments like that, but I've never given a fuck about them. A lot of readers said that nothing happens in my novel, so I just slapped a warning that it's very slow-paced.

Based on advice i got from other places and my dubious experience on Royal Road, I would say be aware of their comments but don't let it affect you.

Unless they are paying customers/patrons or supporting you in other material ways, then they have no right to tell you to hurry up or even to write what they want.

They are getting a story for free, and quite an ungodly amount of uploads in a constant manner. It just screams entitlement to me.

I do agree with southdog as well.

If they wanted their specific version of events to unfold, they could pay you to ghost write or they could write themselves. The horror at the mere suggestion though.

In that case I'm going to have people drop my novel soon because I'm going to make the Male MC get pegged.

Yeah, I'm not giving warnings.
I'm just going to say "this is smut but most smut readers won't enjoy."

Because I've learned that warnings don't matter. I'm just going to post "this is a 1 star story so please only rate it 1 star" when I bring it back to SH. Since it's a 1 star story, if you read and get upset, that's your own fault.

some readers kinda whined about the ending to a volume. Long story short the MC got to school, by order of his father, and in an attempt to get kicked out he retaliated by fucking one of the female teachers but ended up having to attend anyway cuz his dad pulled some strings. MC then proceeded to
fuck basically all the women in the school from first year to fourth and the volume was gonna end with him getting a visit from one of his house's maids informing him he was being accused of raping several high-status princesses and daughters of Dukes and each of their fathers demanded he make honest women out of them. So everyone knew it was bullshit and the girls only accused him to try and force him into marrying them.

Anyway, he was annoyed and then the fathers actually showed up in person one after the other to try and strong-arm him into marrying their own respective daughter. Sparked a small war in the school because all his lovers also tried to defend him, saying shit like, "he belongs to all of us!" In short, chaos ensued and then the Kingdom's own princess stepped thinking he was a good guy who'd never do such a thing and was there to defend his honor. His little sister then also barged in carrying an overpowered holy sword and basically challenged everyone there if they dared to take her brother away.

In short, he was pretty fucked

Anyway, people didn't like that the MC was facing the consequences of his manwhore ways. At first i didn't give a fuck but one reader said, "you know, it doesn't really fit his established character" which was total bullshit but it gave me an excuse to do a small rewrite and put in more interactions between the MC and the best girl so that nice. I ended up changing the entire end to that volume, too. Shit got even more crazy, but i don't care.

You probably thought that I meant warnings would save you from 1-star ratings. I didn't mean it that way. I use warnings to stop getting the same questions and repel unwanted readers. Worked for me. After I slapped the warning that my MC is beta\weak and unlikeable, I miraculously stopped getting questions about why he is so weak and when he will stop being weak.

Ah I see what you mean.
I could just save time and not respond to them. After all, I'll be done writing the story when I post it on SH so they can just read it from start to finish.

Not going to do a rewrite.

Lmao. SH, where author's DGAF because we ain't gettin' paid.

Most of the Author's who are getting paid come from RR originally and brought their own readers with them from what I've seen.

For me, I left RR becuase it was really toxic for my mental health. People wanted me to change the story or were only negative feedback to direct attacks to me...Watching my story spiral downward to 3.5 stars and below while getting advice to drop the story entirely because it's dead (anything under 4 stars is dead same for anything under 2k followers apparently).

I also don't write any rr meta....so I left for my own sanity.

After all the mental breaks Royal Road gave me for my previous attempts, I am now trying to not give a damn. They aren't paying me so their thoughts and complaints will be pointless.
