Question about Reading Lists...

I'd like to create a new banner for the signature that links to my reading list, so that others can quickly go to my library and check out the books I'm reading and get authors more love.

But is there a way to "link" our reading lists like that? I didn't see a way to do that, because the link automatically just goes to our profile, and not the list itself.

Seems like that should be a good idea to have here, if we don't have a way to do that. ? ? ?

Yes, you can. However, the user must be logged in to SH to view them. So if you want to share it outside of the SH community, it won't do much.

Example link;
https://www.scribblehub.com/reading-list/?list=7

To get it, you go to your reading lists (https://www.scribblehub.com/reading-list/), click on the one you want to share, and copy the URL from your browser address bar.

Just make sure none of this is enabled on that list, or it won't be visible for anyone;

You can access the list settings here;

Edit;
Nevermind, I'm stupid. There is no option to link the reading list directly.
The visibility settings are correct tho.

You can grab RSS feed for the list, and then use any RSS reader to display it (it will also update automatically when stuff is added/removed).
It's not what you asked for, but... something is better than nothing, I guess.

Wait, no, disregard my post. I'm stupid. It will work only for the author of the lists. I'm too sleep-deprived to think properly.

The part of visibility is correct; however, the link grabbed that way won't work. Sorry for the confusion lol.

Hmm. Alright, but I don't think many people will want to read this as RSS. That's a shame; SH should consider this option.

It seems like a cool, useful feature but one other site - Watppad I think - was working on a feature like this for three years and finally went live with it back in October, so it might not be as easy to code as it sounds (IIRC - only attended half of the meeting announcing it and have only seen about five posts about it since, it was called "MyShelf" and you could create sub-shelves and put anything you were reading, or anything you wrote on it for others to view)..

It almost seems like I'd have to have someone create a webpage with the reading list on it someplace. ?
I wonder if I could do something like on one of our comic sites.

I've just tried SH and NU (Novelupdates) and it seems you can't get a link directly to the profile page-reading list. It's either error/aliens took your page or it stays on messages page.

I don't have any browser knowledge, so I don't know if you can get an url to reading list directly, or if it's even possible with the way profile page works, but I'm sure recommendation list feature from NU will help you (might as well go for the better feature).

Rec list works just like reading list, and you can also add public notes under them (afaik, reading list doesn't show your notes for other people to see). Now, we just have to convince Tony to implement rec list here...

We need an API that accesses SH members' reading lists. Perhaps this could be proposed as a new feature.

Well, what I COULD do: I can have my web designer for "The Depths" (since that still gets about 50k visitors a month or so), add a webpage directly to our site that "mimics" the content of the reading list; like, it shows the picture-cover, the title underneath, and then each picture/title would be link-able to the book itself. We'll make that our new year project; not enough people are advertising others and I'd like to do more for the talented authors I'm reading right now. :love:

Yeah, as specified, there is no way to link directly to the reading list.
All you can do WITHOUT building additional functionality on your own site is link to your user profile and tell them to click the reading list tab.

Very few people ever do that; I generally only bother checking Shard's massive set of lists or those of suspected translators while on patrol.

Which is why a lot of novels here get lost in the shuffle. So, that's a project we'll undertake in 2026. Maybe it'll catch on and more and more people will link and get a lot more attention to all our favorite books here.
