So I'm a new writer and I can't find the rules that dictate if I'm allowed to post video links in a chapter or not

I want to create a chapter wherein you can listen to music as if the character is playing it themselves.

Thank you for the reply.

It's just that with how copyright is sensitive and how we as authors are hoping to be paid for our art, I just don't want to be that guy that just didn't read the rules properly.

In addition, I'm using classical music that is public domain to clarify what genre I plan on using.

You could reference the music and add an author's note to further push the reader into listening to it as they read.

If that breaks immersion for you, then just have the character or narrative bring up the title of your preferred track. Have him/her/whatever hum the lyrics, have an inner thought; anything along those lines.

Personally, I'd rather latch onto the latter, as it retains immersion and doesn't jump on your face like a sudden A/N.

quick side note, no one will bash your work for putting in a link of their music, as your literature works doesn't directly use the sound. plus, you're doing them a huge favour for free publicity. you have nothing to worry about, even less so if you're talking classical

Thanks for all the replies.

I'll try to produce a good story with the idea I have.

I'm rather intrigued by the idea of letting readers play background music depending on the tone of the plot as it could really put the reader into the mood for example Ride of Valkyrie on a kingdom vs kingdom scene part of the chapter. owo

It’s an interesting idea, but I somehow feel that just because someone’s reading something gruesome and intense: nymphetamine fix and beauty of annihilation might just not be for them.

If you’re going public domain anyways, I don’t see how adding it into your authors notes is going to cause any problems. As long as you don’t decide to randomly stick links to pornography in your author notes... I would suspect you’re going to be fine.

Though just in case, I’d limit it to one per chapter.

I just mention the name of the song and let readers decide whether it is worth hunting down a Youtube video for it or not.
