anxiety

it is written everywhere
black planchettes scurry over
spongy waterlogged bricks
insidious and insectile
rain cuts precisely
into the blood sacrifice
casts divinations
with surgical exactitude

it is not chance
the way this brick
has been chipped and
the others spared

that these twigs have
extended themselves
like fraught hands

they are crafty
but I am not fooled

you will be leaving soon
