Little creatures in the yard reminds of...
Arthur and the Invisibles

Long ago a kid liked to make little toy figures from sticks and stones. He created their homes in little mud holes. The dwellings he called it. The creatures he created called him the Great Creator.
There was also a kid across the street who occasionally would bully the creative child and smash his little creations. His little creations feared the bully as their homes and many lives were always perished whenever he showed up to kick and destroy things. They called him Satan.
The drakonics teamed up with the warriors of stone to defeat the bully. Warriors of Stone picked up pebbles to threw at the bully and it made the bully eventually leave. The kid that created them were amazed and realizing they can fight back, decided to fashion weapons to make them stronger.
His dad owned a junkyard so sometimes will come home with scraps. The boy was able to find some bronze scraps of metalworks and in some way or form, was able to make little bronze weapons shields and spears (tiny long pieces of bronze). This helped the creatures he created to become stronger and defend themselves. When the bully come back along with some of his friends, he went home crying in pain eventually after stepping on their bronze traps and pointy spears hidden in the grass.
Over time, the boy fashioned more weapons he found for the creatures he made. He found iron scraps, and even scraps of steel that he could used and played with giving them lego outfits. After couple skirmishes they battled off the bully who the last time they fought was in their teens. It was a devastating loss for all three races, but they managed to get by and rebuild.
Eventually the creator became a world renowned engineer although from to time he usually helped them tinker. He loved seeing the three races grow through the ages and go through so many changes and development. In the last time he played with them, he create them nanotech suits and now they can communicate with humans.
