Today I decided to make a new novel and try to write and edit it like a professional and it took me full 2 hours to write it and an additional 1 hour to proof check...and it was only 1.1k words...

Now I am thinking about how I had previously written 5-6k words daily and just posted them without editing or proofreading...

After today, when I read it after I proofread and edited it, I got a feeling...an axing feeling like how good my novel was...not comparing to others but t was 100% better than my old novels...

Hahaha, I think now I know how people feel after reading their work after they have given their best...

I haven't given my best yet... But with time I will improve myself more...

Ps. I don't know why I am writing this, but I just needed to tell someone about this..

Imagine how you would feel when reading your old stuff after a year of writing. Anyway, you will get faster the longer you do it, so don't worry.

I think it is a decent amount of time both for writing and editing. I sometimes spend 3-4 hours writing and then half a day editing until I am satisfied. And even then, I'm not entirely satisfied, but at least it's not total garbage.:blob_pat_sad:

I've recently read my first writings (from so many years ago and posted elsewhere), and I was so embarrassed by them that I deleted them and kept them only for myself :blob_joy: :blob_sweat:. The ideas were good, but the way I wrote them seemed superficial to me; the now-me who is more experienced than I was at that time.

I just hated doing both at the same time so much that I have spent the past year just editing. I've done a lot but haven't gotten much further.

I usually take about 5 hours for each chapter of 2000 words. At least 1 hour researching a topic or a place I don't know, 3 hours writing, a little more proofreading as I suffer from dyslexia and about 2 hours translating it as English is not my original language.

All that work only for people to complain anyway because it's not grammatically a masterpiece worthy of Shakespeare, in a free novel, lost on a hidden page of the internet, by an amateur who spends his free time writing and doesn't expect to earn anything with it.

I'm feeling the same way! It takes way longer to write anything now for me, but it's so much better!

I imagine most would feel pure, complete, total facepalming while wondering what the hell they were thinking while writing that

How long to write? Well, depends.

If you count how often I go back and reread each chapter as writing, I suppose hours and hours. If you count how long I spent thinking about it, days. If you count how fast I can type, I'm about 500 words an hour.

I recommend writing everything then going back repeatedly to fix it, rather than getting it all perfect the first pass.

Yes, that's editing for you. Now try it with a little creature who gave your vagina a 2nd degree tear sucking on your nipples multiple times a day and wanting to touch your ,bssshjh llllllc and grabbing things off your desk when it isn't sucking on your nipples.

Keep editing, your work will get even better.

As you pay attention to editing, you become more familiar with the kinds of errors you usually make, and then you will have less of that same kind of error in the future.
