Hi everyone,

I’m sharing the first arc of Their Wonder Years, a character-driven college story set in Fall 1998.

It follows a sheltered freshman arriving in the U.S. for the first time. It will navigate culture shock, awkward confidence, friendship, and slow-burn romance. The tone is grounded and realistic, with a consistent comedic undertone throughout.

This is the first arc in a longer series, and the opening arc is fully written and will update daily.

You’ll probably enjoy this if you like:
• Coming-of-age stories with humor
• College slice-of-life with emotional growth
• Slow-burn romance (including harem elements)
• Fish-out-of-water cultural comedy
• Stories set in the ’90s-'00s

Thanks for checking it out—happy to hear thoughts from readers who enjoy character-focused stories.
Chapter 2 is up.

Thanks for the reply! Should I break down the stories into smaller parts? Are such big chapters a no-no here?

I write on storiesonline. I had started one story on Scribblehub way back but gave up because I rarely saw anyone engage. I was told that people don't read until you finish a significant amount of work first. Came back once I finished a story.

The previous story is not finished yet. Will start posting that as well once I finish that arc as well.

I don't think it's bad but I'm also pretty new myself, so I could very well be wrong. My advice would be to test the waters and see how it plays out. Personally, I love big chapters, so I have to imagine there's probably plenty others like me.

I do too. Problem is exactly what you mentioned earlier though. That you'll come back to it instead of getting started with the story.

I think I'll probably break down the existing content into more consumable chapters. I want people to read asap - not earmark it for later.

For me personally, later just means later today. Because it's nighttime where I am and I'm sleepy. Also earmark is a new word for me. I've genuinely never heard of it. Some writer I am.
I hope it works out. Whether you decide to break up the chapters or not, I'll give it a read today either way. :thumb emoji:

9000 words per chapter on average is definitely incredibly long for a webnovel. I'll repeat the advice I received from when I uploaded 8000 words/chapter: as this isn't a physical book, readers can't put an actual bookmark in a page if they pause. They kind of have to read the entire 9000 word chapter in one sitting, lest they want to keep scrolling back and finding their progress.

From what I've seen, usually the average word count suggested is 1500-2500 words. Longer ones can go up to 3000 words. Of course, this is just the suggested—I've written much longer and much shorter chapters, but that's a lot later. In the beginning it's mostly kept within that range.

Thanks. I think I'll do just that. Seeing the top stories and trending stories - I see the same format over and over. I'll just have to redo the chapters :mad_s:

Yep, if you try to have 10k word chapters, you'll break yourself trying to get noticed for no real benefit. Plus, readers like to end on a chapter like its a save point.

Thanks. I broke my first chapter up into 4 parts :)

It's a lot harder to do this than I thought! Oh well. I wondered how some of the writers here had 1k+ chapters. I guess I may reach that point as well at some time!

Well, in the web novel, visibility is more important than the standard novel format. Two common strategies for increasing fiction's visibility are shortening chapters and consistent updates. That way... (interested) readers will read your fiction.

Yea. It's interesting to learn how each platform is different.

I like the way you've embedded your stories in the signature. I have shamelessly borrowed it :s_tongue:

Alright!

8 chapters up and more to come every 4 hours.

I love the schedule feature. This site really has some awesome tools for publishing. I guess that's why people publish every few seconds. LOL. It's brutal in the latest updates list!
