So I wrote a fanfic a while back it was a fun project that I wanted to do. Due to my university final thesis, I had to put it to a halt. I now have some free time but I just know if I should continue. I really want to but now I want to start from the demon slayer verse. The problem is I want to use the same characters as when I started the fanfic. The main mc, The eldritch entity, samurai Jack himself, and I forgot the obnoxious mc system (litrpg mechanic )

These three would be a constant in the story anyway jumping through

It's a fanfic about stopping Aku that got too much power in a different timeline and was spreading across fiction like a plague infecting and consuming the verse-gaining even more power. The first journey was the samurai Jack verse itself. The second was demon slayer and so on. now I did write till chapter 17 but as it was one of my first works its absolute garbo. I definitely need to devise everything from chapters 1-15 lol. it is nigh unbearable to read. Too much work for something i don't know if I should do or just start from a different point.

Im confused as to what to do. Should I use the previous characters and make a chapter explaining the past events from the old fanfic? or should I just continue my old fanfic, revise it, and progress through the story into the demon slayer arc?

Continue your old fanfic and make some revisions ? You already wrote 17 chapters, it will be a shame if you don't continue

You shouldn't ask others to decide for you. Since you asked, you obviously don't want to continue your old fanfic. Otherwise, you would've just done it instead of going to the forums. Given that, it's going to be near impossible for you to revise because you want to write this new arc. You don't even want to continue the old arc and you'll try to revise it? No way you're going to enjoy that.
You already know the answer. Your question should be its implementation.

Other options I can think of offhand:
1. Heavily rewrite the Samurai Jack world arc without looking at the old fic. Or maybe read it once and then just write a new version taking all the liberties you want without referencing it further.
2. Start from the Demon Slayer verse (or right before jumping into the Demon Slayer verse) and don't explain it up front-- rather, set up your character's dynamic as you jump into the action/story, and weave little bits of history, explanation, and (newly written) flashbacks in as they become necessary, assuming readers know nothing of the old fanfic. I imagine anyone who is cool with worldhopping crossovers will probably be okay with it starting with Samurai Jack, the MC, and the Eldritch Entity in Demon Slayer world if you set it up well enough.

lol, but it's just wild and fun to explore fanfics.

it's just hard letting go of the previous work. It's not that I don't want to revise the old fanfic but it's tedious. Still, my interest was to explore Jack's world setting so I was just asking for opinions on what could be a better approach. I did promise that I would continue it when I put it on hiatus as well. It's gonna be a lot of work revising 17 chapters but I think it's worth it because the timeline and events in the samurai jack are as interesting as any to explore. thanks for your input :blob_cookie:
You absolutely should revise it, and then continue it. Don't make a recap chapter. I know that revision is a lot of work, but you can do it!
Yeah, I think after considering my options and all of your options I think that's the best choice. Thanks for the insight :blob_cookie:

thank you for some insights. Yeah Maybe ill rewrite the old fic and make it better. I think I actually build it up okayish till I put it on hiatus. It's going to be hard but ill do it anyway. I think just needed some 3rd person perspective from other people. I got such good feedback. Most of you agree to just rewrite and start from the original where I left off. after some thinking it makes sense. thanks :blob_cookie:

Oh, why, your Majesty? If it is fun to write, then I say "Write it". Words are words, and one has to start somewhere. Or take a break while keeping her streak going. Let me tell you, after 90 stories you would want a break from the world creating, and want to spend some time with your comfort characters.
Personally, I have pledged to single-handedly fill up the Hetalia Bulgaria/Hetalia Byzantine Empire column on AO3. And nobody can tell me that I can't have fun while doing so! If @K5Rakitan can have a fanfic that is now legendary on Scribble Hub, then I can write my comfort fanfics too! (And since there is no rating on AO3, nobody can bomb it with 1-star ratings. (Evil grin))
