so for fucking YEARS i've been looking this one movie, and i just spent an hour on ChatGPT 4 thinking it might help, but no dice. Its gotten to the point where im almost convinced some weird mandela effect is going on and i somehow crossed into a universe where that movie just dont exist. But im not ready to give up, so im requesting aid for the sake of my sanity.

Now, i was a child when i watched it but what i VIVIDLY recall is that it was a science fiction movie about a man being sent to investigate a signal in deep space, possibly coming from a black hole. He finds himself on an alien planet, stranded on a raft at sea. One scene depicted him being attacked by an large sea creature and being advised by his colleagues back on earth to jump out of the raft because a creature that size wont care about small prey and only wants the large raft. At the end, he gets washed up onto a beach and discovers the planet he is on operates on a slower time...i think due to it being close to a black hole. And that the only thing connecting him to his colleagues back on earth is the device of some kind he is using to communicate with them and that once it runs out of power, basically the people he is talking to will have been long dead. Or he will. Whichever. That was the end of the movie, them discovering that fact somehow and him realizing he's got to live the rest of his life on a strange alien planet with seemingly no intelligent life and no way home.

And NO its not fucking Interstellar. Similar concepts but the scenes i remember arent from that movie and it was a much older movie. Maybe in the early 2000s or made sometime earlier because thats just when i recall watching it, somewhere in the early 2000s and almost definitely before 2012

Like, someone PLEASE tell me they remember a movie like this. Because i KNOW it was a movie i saw when i was a kid but no matter how much i look, it doesnt exist in this universe apparently and its pissing me off cuz thats crazy

If you watched it with anyone else, go and ask them. Since you were a child back then, it might help to ask your family and look around for the dvd

The big problem is if it was an indie movie. Do you recall what the image quality/ CG was like? That might help us date it.
Another worse case scenario is if it was a "made for tv movie" or a direct to dvd movie

It is either an indie movie, unlisted, or a mix of memories jumbled together. I scoured all the major lists from 1975 to 2010 for you but found nothing similar (including movies, tv series, tv movies, and animations). My first thought was lost in space, but of course, that does not match at all.

There were movies that had individual parts that are fitting to the description but not all at once. Stranded on the ocean? Sure, but not on a different planet. There are a few, but then none has time dilation, ocean theme, or sci-fi elements. Or monsters. Stranded in space or on a different planet? Sure, but none of it was water-planet again. Or a planet at all but stations or ships. Black holes? Sure, but once again, no water planets. Time dilation? Sure, but not in space. Or on a different world. I checked with time-travels or dimension traveling too, but nothing.

My bet is on you remembering a mix of multiple movies or series smashed into one. :blob_hmm: Or you just watched someone's garage/school project.:blob_cookie:

Trying to also search for this mystery flick has also sapped my sanity.

There's a good chance it might've been a tv series or maybe a B-movie, because the only other big Sci Fi movie that had a black hole as a focus (from memory outside of Interstellar) is 'Event Horizon'.

I'm sorry mate, your old universe where this movie existed never did in ours. Welcome to universe 23.

It was a Sci-fi movie so it was on the Sci-fi channel--now called Syfy if memory serves. CG, i dunno but it was pretty high definition. Probably mid to late 90's to early to mid 2000s but like i said it wasnt a very old movie or new by early 2000s. Not newer than 2010 almost definitely

Is it The Abyss?
no, was science fiction with space ships and shit. Like i said, was similar to Interstellar but im sure it was made years later before that movie. In my mind, over 5 to 10 years prior to Interstellar.

it could have been a prehistoric earth he ended up on, not an alien planet exactly but i think i recall a different sky like multiple moons or suns or some weird shit like that. I definitely recall he was in the ocean, on a raft, when he detected a sea creature--with tentacles--being told to jump off the raft to survive because it wasnt interested in small prey. Then he washed up on a beach with a nearby forest. Set up a base of sorts with that communication device.

Wasnt animation at all, was live action. It wasnt a series or a multiple-movie thing, either, im sure. Like i said, was on the Sci-fi channel. Had to be an older movie but i dont believe it was any older than 1990 at the oldest. Im pretty sure they called it a worm hole. First time i heard that term so i do remember that, too.

nah. It doesnt fit, sadly. Towards the end, the protagonist was on a raft in an ocean. Then to survive an attack on the raft from some tentacle monster, he jumped off. Washed ashore, found out there is a time dilation from the planet he is on and earth. Once the communication device runs out of power, the connection is gone and either he will be long dead from the people of earth's perspective or they will from his.

its gotta be some lesser known movie. I saw it on the Sci-fi channel years back.

If this was Syfy, we're on a whole other level of boned. A simple google search isn't going to save us. If this movie wasn't liked, its not going to be indexed properly.
We can give up on actor recognition too. Syfy uses relatively unknown or has-been actors. I'll give Syfy's catalog a gander though

yeah and it was a few years before it was rebranded as "Syfy" too so we may be extra boned. I need one of those science fiction neckbeard nerds who spend all their days in their mom's basements with walls lined in obscure sci-fi movies and comics. THAT dude would definitely know

It's too bad a lot of the subreddits are currently private. r/tipofmytongue would have been the place to go.
Thanks for this though. I looked through 208 titles. Very surprised that a movie called Pegasus VS Chimera exists, and that the synopsis talks about slaying a dragon.

Dude, there's this sharknado movie that include time travel to Jurassic age to kill the first prehistoric sharknado, time leap to camelot era to use excalibur, then eliminate a terminator who came from the future. Pegasus VS Chimera looked mild in comparison.

Brah, who has ever thought of pitting a pegasus of all things, versus a chimera? And then leading with slaying a dragon?
I'll give you points for the terminator part, but time leaping to camelot's been done in more than one portal fantasy XD

But yeah. These guys make me feel like anyone can be a film maker as long as they have a dream, passion, and acid.
I've seen the ideas people have on this forum. I'm surprised no one here has gotten a syfy movie done.
(Or maybe they have and they're very good at hiding it.)
