I'm no good with names, so I ask you people of this forum to help me come up with an imaginative and interesting ones for the Beasts companions of my story, basically like pokemon.

Example:

Bempong - a common monkey beast, it has a noticeable characteristics of having a big hands and small, agile body.

Witch Cat - a feline beast that uses curse as a means of attack. It's the size of normal stray cat, but it's fur is as dark as the void and it has a weird tendency to get attached to gloomy girls like a familiar of a witch, hence the name.

Thanks!

In one of my books, there was a demonic faction led by a tiger. I named him Harimau, which simply means "The tiger" in Malaysian. Case closed. I had many more like this, naming my demonic characters by looking up their animal names in other languages like Mongolian. Of course, if it just didn't fit, I transformed it using my second method, but still. It was fun doing so.

Maybe it will help a little until others also chime in on it.

I like the sound of a witch cat. My suggestion might not be helpful, but how about naming the witch cat as “Sachi”. It's a random Japanese name I picked up, Sachi vaguely means good luck or happiness. A good, or an ironical, name for this particular cat who likes gloomy girls.

Witch Cat is basically the general term of a breed of a feline species. It's like how we have shorthair, bobcats, mountain cats, and more.

Anyway, Sachi is a good name—might use it later ?.

Sometimes you can try to apply symbolism as well, like how Salem would fit for a witch cat (a tv show does just this but i long forgot its name, it was Sabrina the teenage witch or smth)
There are some other modifications to it like Salemite or Salemancer that also sound cool.
Of course, these names are inspired from the Salem witch trials.

Use these as inspiration or take whatever you want, mix the names up, etc.

Another way would be to put the noise they make and combine it with a characteristic of the creature.

Like for a cat known to put people to sleep could be -> Purrdream, Meowsnore, Purfur, etc

Hexpurr, Meowitch, Abra Furdava, Gloomfur, Whisker Wisp (Like Will O' Wisp).

These are some alternatives I could think of for the Witch Cat.

Hope it helps.

Hmm, how about Eldritch Style with a name of Ichitragul or something gibberish?
